Placid - I see you are somewhere in the middle, yet the coin still hasn't reached reserve. In your opinion is the 2,000 price it is at now still a good deal? By the way, it appears overgraded to me what with the nick mark in the chin and evident wear in the hair, assuming it is not just a weak strike. Just my opinion though, but PCGS does seem to be pretty inconsistent with older coins in my experience.
still way underpriced at this level (currently @ $2075.). my guess is the reserve is somewhere north of $4500. the 'nick' in the hair is probably a result of pitting due to impurities in the alloy being used - common on the earlier struck 1795 dollar. as opposed to a test mark. weaks strikes were the order of the day. the seller has, however, played with the image to lighten the color of the coin. it's probably a light choclate color or close to it. take a look at the two reverse shots and you'll get an idea of what i mean re: color. i've got no problem with the grade assigned but i would really like it at choice vf money.
Man! Now that is a coin! I hope before I die, I can afford one of those. The history! I wonder if there is a provenance to some collector in the 1800s who had a lot of money and snatched up that beauty?
