Crack Out A.S.E. For Submission?

Do you have to crack out the Silver Eagles from the US Mint capsule for submission to PCGS? I tried to separate the capsule halves and couldn't (without restorting to garage tools).

Thanks,

  • chiefbob,

I've read elsewhere on this forum that it's ok to submit them in the mint capsule. Don't take that as the gospel, though.

What I really wanted was to be the first ask:

  • I'm relatively new at this but when I asked PCGS about this they said no, you can leave them in the capsule. I then asked what happens to the capsule and was told that they are recycled.

I submitted coins at the Baltimore show and PCGS (Stacy) said that it was no problem if I left the coins in the US Mint capsules.

I have submitted many coins in the mint capsules. Two were returned because PCGS could not open the capsule without destroying it. If you can't open the capsule easily, I would not send it to PCGS. They didn't charge me for anything, but it was a waste of time and postage costs.

The only time they haven't graded my coins were when they were 1976 40% silver proof quarters and halves. Everything else I've sent in capsules they graded.

Thanks to all for responding. I sent them off today and we'll see what happens. Now I'm battling the USPS for my claim reimbursement. I'll post it separately.
