Huge price discrepancy on bid sheet for BU War Nickel Rolls vs. Roll Set bid

I figured this one out too late to save me but am passing it on in the hopes of keeping others from getting trapped. We all know there are things that don't jive in "The Coin Dealer Newsletter" but this one is dramatic. If you add all of the roll bids for BU War Nickels it adds up to $1,885. If you look at the little section that lists sets the bid for the BU roll set is only $1,350. Which one is right? I have noticed that it is hard for me to get bid for BU rolls. I wonder if this has something to do with it. Maybe the individual BU roll prices are for gem rolls that have coins to be graded and the roll set bid assumes all the good stuff has been picked out. Maybe the bid sheet people don't know.

The bid for an indvidual BU War Nickel set is $39. Multiply that by 40 and you get $1,560. Which price is right????? What other discrepancies have you noticed?

  • Sets often sell for less than the value of the individual coins. I suspect that is what you are seeing. Isn't the price of the roll less than forty times the price-per-coin?
The strangest things seem suddenly routine.

Yea, the roll set bids $1,350 and the individuals add up to $1,560.

On Franklin Halves the individual set bids $325. Multiply that by 20 and you get $6,500. The roll set bids $7,100.
  • Wonder what bid on the Franklins would be if it were calculated from the individual coin prices. These sorts of discrepancies can be quite dramatic.
