choice proof seated quarter borderline ultra cameo, photos up!!

this coin 1868 is in an NGC proof64 CAMEO holder

is a solid deep/ultra cameo reverse with a near miss deep/ultra cameo obverse. the reverse of the coin is a 65++ coin with the obverse a very nice 64 coin with a patch of light hairlines in the field at 3pm that keeps this coin from a higher grade.

the coin is white with a ultra light golden toning evenly covering both sides. this coin has one of the lowest if not the lowest populations for gem proof seated quarters with motto. rare with a cameo

the eye appeal is that is a much higher graded coin and has excellent flast and blast.
the photograph is very poor very much so and does not show the exceptional eye appeal this coin has but the mirrors are deep

and the cameo extremely strong but not as strong as per the photo.

why this coin is not in a deep/ultra cameo holder is it is a super near miss deep/ultra on the obverse!

this coin currently resides in an eastern collection and has been personally examined by myself and the above conclusions are my own

sincerely michael

please see scan below also PLEAS SEE ANOTHER POST ON THIS THREAD FURTHER DOWN BY ME THAT IS ANOTHER REEVAULATION OF MORE SALEIENT POINTS ON THIS COIN THAT MIGHT BE AO INTERSET TO ANY SEATED MATERIAL COLLECTORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the cameo is deep on the reverse but with a slight frost break on the obverse it is only a cameo but a monster borderline deep cameo!

the 68 has one of the lowest populations ngc/pcgs in the legend obverse proof seated quarter series in higher grades and is a really scarce to rare coin in cameo

    here is the reverse

  • here is the same pic with some color fixing.
I couldnt let such a pretty coin go with the poor pics.
I wouldnt believe the difference a little auto color in photoshop could do.

Here's my best job (for 2 minutes work) at color correcting the pic. There will be some jpeg artifacts from resaving over and over.

I didn't see you already did a correction, mids1999. Hope you don't mind that I did one, too. image

nwcs that is great also!!!!!! thanks 1999 and you got it right now see how the back of the coin is really deep cameo? and how on the obverse it has some frost breaks but is still super close to ddep cameo? that is why it only got cameo as the frost breaks on the obverse this is a great textbook example of why some great cameos soooooo close to deep cameo and one side is deep cameo but still only gets cameo!!!!!!!!!!!

coins that look like this in cameo are really undervalued coins in cameo and the rare 1868 lowest pop in higher grade with this cameo is a super rare coin

thanks to you both i really like it on here with many people and you both are included!!!!! it is good to see some good quality people on here with intelligence!

    sincerely and respectfully michael

Michael, if you have Photoshop and always scan your coins in the same way as this one, I can send you my levels adjustment (I saved it) and you can apply it in the levels command after scanning.

It's such a beautiful coin, it deserves all our admiration! image I'd still let it be DCAM. The sum is greater than the parts. image

thnaks nwcs i do not have photo shop i will have to rely on iothers you are very kins to help me thanks!!!!!!!

also if you look at the coin on the reverse and see a line in the egale this is a toning line as this coin was put intio a craft envelope like brfore the 20 century and the coin got toned and where the coin rested in the envelope it got a toning line from the edge of the flap that was folded under the envelope

alsothis coin is dipped to remove the probably ugly uneven toning and they did a great job one out of a thousand but the toning line still kept it was removed a little but is still there and can be seenin this photo

also the coin retoned an even golden very super light golden classic retoning you see on many seate3d coins now usually i do not like this but if you saw this coin the eye appeal is amazing and then the almost deep cameo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well this greatly supercedes this retonnig and so to me the coin is a great coin an exception to the rule but all coins esepcially so the older ones and even much more so the 1800 and before need to be not only graded but evaulated on a sight seen basis

and of course one mans treasure is anothers trash but taht is waht makes a market

if evetryone thought like me there would be no market at all!!!!!!!!!

i will leave it at that let sleeping dogs lie so to speak.......lol

  • Michael,

This coin is great! I love classic silver cameo proofs the best! How could anyone not be enchanted with a coin like this with super frosty devices and deep black fields? WOW!
