Less than impressed =(

Just got my first PCGS slabbed coin in today. Up until now, I have never even seen a PCGS slab in person.

Anyway, the first thing I noticed is that the plastic that covers the coin sticks out past the rest of the casing, so this is the first area to get scratched. Why would they do this? From looking at the pictures on the net, I had thought that the coin was inset and the rim around it was raised to prevent scratches right in front of the coin, but thats not the case.

This is a 2002 coin too, so I am guessing this is the latest release of their slab.

Thats my rant for the day. I really expected something special.

While the design of the slab may need some improvements, you will get the best "overall" quality coins in PCGS slabs. Not always, but more often than not a PCGS graded MS68 will be noticeably better than someones else's (other grading services) MS68. Consistent quality is what lifts PCGS above the rest. That and tighter grading standards. PCGS does make mistakes, I have a couple in my collection. Other companies make more mistakes. This is my honest opinion based on MY experiences. I have seen a lot of slabbed coins, not enough to make me an "expert", but enough to get the lay of the land, if you will. Welcome to the forums, by the way. Markimage

Get the little PCGS blue box (or the smoked NGC box that holds NGC, PCGS, ICG slabs) to store your coins.

I guess to have the coin inset would require a thicker, heavier, more expensive to produce slab. Slab scratches can be easily polished out though.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Try useing these things and your Scratches will not appear unless you treat the Slabs and Coins without some care.

You may have to put your thumbs into the Card Protector and stretch it just a little to get PCGS Slabs into them.
