Now this is an error!!! Dime I bought today

Here is a Roosevelt Dime I bought today. Very dramatic and very cool to look at. Just can't help but wonder how the heck this thing got out of the mint under normal circumstances. Maybe this is one of those employees smuggled out. Kind of funny on the PCGS holder's description it says "Huge B/S." Is the B/S for broad strike or something else?

Now that is an error. Very very cool.
  • Poor coin!! image

I think these "exteme errors" are cool to look at and collect. How DO they escape the mint. There can't be too many of them around.

    Great find.

I believe it does stand for Broad Struck, but I've never seen or heard of a "Huge Broad Struck" designation. A very cool coin. I recently got a Broad Struck Jefferson nickel off eBay, but yours is a far more dramatic error than mine. Nice snag.

(edited to change strike to struck.)

These are absolutely cool coins to chase after. Surprisingly not to expensive for all the coin you get (lots of bang for the buck.

I have a PCGS "Hugh BroadStrike 1998 Lincoln that you can tell PCGS used their quarter ring insert on.

The fun question is how did PCGS determine it was MS65? image

Funny how people always think errors are "helped." The Mint workers are very prolific smugglers as millions of errors have left the Mint. It's easy to explain how this "escaped." Since it is almost the same size as a normal coin the riddlers let it pass through.
The broadstrike doesn't excite me much but the brockage is awesome! I like how the increased pressure of 2 coins in the striking chamber at the same time split the planchet. Cool!

    Finally!
someone posted a genuine true to life error coin.

    Very neat coin!!
    great catch
  • How the heck DO these coins make it out of the mint? Because it's not a proof, does that mean it never really gets eye-balled by a human?

    Cool error, nonetheless.

They can't eye ball all the coins. They use mechanical sorters (the rittler?) to try to separate odd size coins.
