Another PSA Submission idea

You'd think PSA or another company would have developed a system by now, that would allow someone to enter all the information right on a web page, generate an invoice number, AND enter that information into PSA's systems (into a quene, for a receiver to check when the cards actually come in).

Think of it - the customer can enter all the information (using the same screens PSA's receivers do, pop down menus with year, brand, type, etc.), being able to note some things that PSA misses (refractor, etc.) and will help speed up the process for those invoices, maybe even cutting down on PSA's labor and perhaps allowing a reduction in costs/price...

Do you guys remeber four years ago when PSA wanted all cards LABELED with stickers on the back of every card submitted, aligned to the invoice number/line number? I never bothered with it, but many people did...
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?

  • I agree. At the very least a form that you could do online and then print out to send. Doing a long submission by hand takes too much time.
  • Thank you for your suggestions. Just wanted to respond to the last poster that our online submission was changed a little while ago to where you can type in the individual card information on the form and then print it out instead of hand-writing each card entry. Unfortunately the size of each section is limited due to the width constraint of the form but perhaps this makes it slightly more convenient.

  • I have often wondered why PSA wasn't doing this it makes sense to me ... Makes life easier for us and it would probably cut their costs and improve turn-around time...

I still do. I thought you were supposed to do that. Granted, I am only shipping 25 to 75 cards at a time but I still do every card.
  • I'm with you Aro13....I just submitted 114 cards...and labled each one of them.....I thought this was something in the rules you had to do....It doesn't make sense if some people do it, and some people don't.....oh well....so much for PSA's sumbission rules, huh.
Next time...I won't waste the time.

i recently asked psa about this labeling issue on submissions.
they said by doing it, you usually speed up your submission, as they have 2 employees dedicated to doing this to your unlabeled cardsavers all day long.
want to save psa on thier costs? go back to labeling.
the invoice form still list this as one of the instructions I believe.
  • I still label what I sumbit also. I hand write the whole xxxxxx-1, xxxxxx-2, xxxxxx-3, and so on on the back of each cardsaver on a white sticker. My turnaround has been superb and I don't want to jinx that. image

    kurt,
what do you mean by xxxxx-1, xxxxx-2? By that I mean what do the xxxxxx stand for?
  • The xxxxxx is the invoice # like 124589...sorry if that was someone's invoice just picked at random. So 124589-24 would be the 24th card on invoice 124589.

A few shows ago at Fort Washington I asked Danny about the labeling, as I seemed to be the only one that submitted cards w/ a label on it (from what I could see). He stated it wasn't necessary. But I still do it. Just in case my submitted cards and the invoice go in 2 different directions, they will know whose cards they are. I usually submit around 100 cards per order, my added time equals maybe 5 minutes...jay

I always label and I seem to get great turnaround times. It's easy to print up a whole page of labels with the same invoice number using Microsoft WORD, and then I just add the individual card numbers and slap them on.

I thought the label is supposed to have two rows, one for the constant submission number, and below that on a second row the line or sequence number for the card itself which corresponds to the invoice/submission form. I guess i'ts quicker to do it all on the same row, and should be just as readable to the PSA employee. I usually try to enter my cards in date and numerical order so it's easier for me to reference something if needed, it may be quicker for the grader too perhaps.

Does not the listing of a submission number and a sequence number give more security ? Regarless of professionalism, accidents do happen. Cards could get "mixed up" with other similar ones if there was no sticker with that information. It is much more easy to verify all cards were graded, if there are sequential stickers rather than to just count and re-count the total number of cards one sent in. Also what if you happen to send in, for example, a dozen 1989 John Smoltz RCs ? Without an information bearing sticker isn't there a better chance the second grader/verifier will not always verifv the right card ?? That would probably be sorted out eventually, but causes more time and corresponding cost . I am not sure if the card is permanently removed from the stickered holder the same time or spot with every submission. If very early in the grading process they pull the card out, and never re-enter it, my musings are insignificant.

The stickers (why "removable" ? ) however bothersome to the sender, are a good idea for control, accuracy, and efficency which does keep the cost down. PSA is quite correct in requesting their use. image

I'm actually thinking about sending in facsimile "flips" tacked onto the back of each card with all the info and even the grade and cert number printed right there for them to see when they open my little package (full color and glitter PSA logo and all). That way they can just walk my order over to the sealing room, right past the "grading dungeon" and """pow"""" my invoice ships the next day. Now that's rounding off the corners. Maybe Dslsports beat me to this one????
Joe.......think of all the dough you'll save on graders, and you wouldn't need to replace Danny...........
Yeah, they laughed at the "House of Cheese drive through" when I first invented that too.

  • What a great idea - have the customer print the labels from home - PSA can sell the labels to them for use in the printers - grade them themselves, and all PSA would have to do is holder them! Think - people might be willing to pay full price even with the extra work! image

Or Pittney Bowes could be called in to make a "slab-it-at-home" machine, just e-mail psa your grades, they send back a cert number, ending the tediuos task of having to submit cards at all.image

I label all my cards in my submissions too.
but I never add the invoice number...

I would just put a small circle sticker
with the line number of that card
(from the invoice) on the cardsaver.

I guess I just assumed that the invoice
would always be with the cards.'
    (Maybe I shouldn't!)
