Wow! Great results!! How long were you stockpiling those raw cards? I just got back my first of three Specials invoices with mostly good grades (compared to previous invoices).

    1967: 9's: 5 8's: 36 7's: 8 less than 7: 4 TOTAL 53
    1968: 9's: 2 8's: 25 7's: 3 less than 7: 2 TOTAL 32
    1969: ------ 8's: 6 7's: 3 less than 7: 2 TOTAL 11
    70's: 9's: 1 8's: 2 less than 8: 1 TOTAL 4
    80's: 9's: 39 8's: 41 less than 8: 7 TOTAL 87

Wondering where all the 10's went on the 80's factory sets I openedimage?
What I continue to learn is that while I gradually my % of 8's and 9's (1960's), I always seem to miss a couple of klunkers. Would this invoice be considered a disappointment if it were yours?

  • ejguru,

Disappointing? Yes. Typical? Yes, again. It's not our fault. It's PSA that can't grade cards. We find a card we like that is either 8 or 9. All we want is to put it in an 8 or 9 holder. PSA puts it in 7 (or lower) holder 10-20% of the time. Why can't they get it right?

Maybe they grade more than just centering and corners and surface and focus and edge wear. Maybe this eye appeal thing is the problem. Know what my Granny used to say? "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Granny also said, "If you can't say anything nice about someone, don't say anything at all." [The silence is deafening.]

I've got a '63 McCovey in a PSA 7 holder that it would take a PSA 9 to beat it. It's not even close. I doubt if the best 8 on the planet is as nice as my 7. I've learned to be happy with the card, not the holder.
  • toppsgun,

It's funny you should say that on the McCovey. By far the most appealing card of this collection is the McCovey in 63. Gull of color and gloss.

I agree the love is in the card and not the holder...
