I don't think it's unc., looks more ch. au. although I've seen worse in ms/61 holders. I guess sending the coin in depends on how lucky you are feeling. You have to get rid of the "crud" around the stars and some of the other devices before that coin will get slabbed. Not an easy task without ruining the coin. If that's not your cup of tea, don't mess with it. Looks to have some verdigris/corrosion in those areas. Heck of a nice pic! Very sharp.

  • I took a look at the scan again to see what you were talking about and the discolored stuff on the picture doesnt appear on the coin itself. The coin itself is a solid single color.
I have not been having much luck scanning coins.
They allways comeout different then the origional in one way or another.

    commercial au-50 at best.

  • Not knowing much about this particular series I'd say BN63

  • I would say AU. Is that corrosion below the 7? The hair coil lacks detail. PCGS is killing these now.

A nice AU-55 brown. Clearly has wear on the high points.

I agree with those who said AU- this coin has some wear which is plainly visible on the high points. However, it's an attractive piece, IMHO. I'd say AU50 to AU53.

Here is an ANACS AU53 I once had, for the sake of comparison. (Same type, different date). Note the hair over the ear and the uppermost point of the coronet on both your coin and mine- just a little rub there on both examples. Yours does look to have a little bit of corrosion or verdigris in the devices on the reverse- but so did mine, and it made it into the ANACS slab without net grading. The reverse on mine looked a tad better, though. Yours is, of course, a better date than mine was, though obviously that doesn't have anything to do with the grading.

Your scans really aren't that bad- but I personally have never had any luck scanning coins in 2 X 2's. I always remove them before scanning. (I mostly use flips for raw stuff, anyway).

I don't like the specks of green corrosion on the reverse nor the already mentioned corrosion right below the date. I'm afraid it'll get bodybagged for it unless submitting to ANACS or SEGS (or, PCI) for a problem grade.

  • with those problems what (problem) grade do you think this coin should net If the coin has no wear only those spots of corrosion?

You must have your own reasons for slabbing that coin, so I'm not going to argue why. I just don't think you should spend the money on slabbing fees for the coin. It's probably going to get bagged, if it goes to ngc or pcgs. Anacs will most likely net grade the coin. I don't see what you can gain by slabbing this coin, but it's your decision, so good luck with whatever you decide.
