1884 S Morgan

Can someone help me figure out if this is the real deal? I heard something about the S being fake on these 1884 dollars and I want to be sure mine is not one of them. I have yet to submit this dollar and dont want to do so if it is not real.

  • 84-S is a tough coin in MS-64 and up that's all...

    Rusty.

This is only partially true. 1884S is a CONDITION RARITY---not pricey in circulated condition, but Quite PRICEY in Ms condition--from upwards of $3000 for a nice Ms 60 to mid-high 5 digit prices for a high grade Ms. Circulated examples are NOT scarce.

The coin you picture is circulated, and NOT rare.
  • but is the s real or fake? That is the question at hand.
  • The mint mark looks correct. This is a common circulated coin but a very rare uncirculated coin. I've seen some uncirculated ones with a glued on mint mark.

based on several other "s" mint marks I have seen - the position and the shape - even the font, of the "s" mint mark appear to be genuine
"spare change? Nahhhhh...never have any...sold it all on E-bay..."
see? My Auctions "Got any 1800's gold?"
  • Thank you very much for helping me.
    I really appriciate the help
