As reported in the latest The Numismatist:
The FBI is requesting that any person who has lost money doing business with David Vogel or JVC Rare Coins, of Dallas, Texas, please make a complaint with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center on the Internet at http://www.ifccfbi.gov.
And on a lighter note, there was a great story about two friends who shared a particular collecting interest in a type of medal, and one of them spotted an item on ebay that they figured was worth $15,000-$20,000, but listed in some weird category. The one guy bought it for $455, and to their disbelief the seller listed another one days later which they grabbed with a $500 BIN. So each guy wound up with one.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

His coin expertise has served him well in the past. He knows how to find the coins that will upgrade and also has (had?) many outlets for liquidating collections.
I hope whatever problems he's had will be resolved and any victims made whole.
It's a shame when someone you respect does wrong.
