When did pcgs & ngc start putting cam and dcam on pre 1950 proofs?

Just wondering on this topic. I ask because I have a barber proof that looks to be a no question cam. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • stman,

The NGC started grading cameo and ultra-cameo for pre 1950 proofs I believe in the summer of 1999 and the PCGS started in the summer of 2001.

The NGC pop numbers are probably a better indication of rarity than the PCGS at present time. PCGS numbers will catch up in another year or two, although the PCGS pop numbers seem to be following the same trends as the NGC, except for a couple dates.

Oldcameoproofsguy, Thanks for the info. And I understand the pop numbers are artificial, until coins are resubmitted for cam and dcam.

I'm one that doesn't really go by the numbers just curious sometimes. As I mentioned I have a pr barber quarter that looks like it deserves cam. It's ngc, so now I'll figure out if it was graded before they started adding cam.

Interesting NGC started this long before pcgs did.

    Thanks again Stman
