COMMEMORATIVE ERRORS VS. PROOF ERRORS

There are only a few proof variety errors mentioned in the coin books that I have been reading. Some of them are very valuable such as the1968 S no S coming in at $ 8,500.00 in pf65. There does not seem to be any variety errors in the commemorative coinage is that because they are inspected more rigorously than proof sets?image

There are many dozens of varieties reported in the various proofs of the last
37 years. Many of these are highly collectible and include double dies, OMM's,
upside down MM's, design changes, unc dies polished for use as proof dies &
more. There have also been many errors reported. Even a die cap has been
found in a modern set, though this one was probably intentional.

Most of these are not listed in the mainstream guides due to their being overly
esoteric. Some do have premiums due to their scarcity anyway.

Thanks the information is helpfull. I think error collecting is very interesting especially in the proofs since they are more rare.image

The smaller maintages lessens the chance of errors on commems. They do exist but are mostly minor.
cladking how does somebody intentionaly cap a die?
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I suppose one could put an adhesive on the top of the planchet, but this
isn't what I meant by intentional. I meant that this error was intentionally
included in the set. It was much too large and too thick to fit into the plas-
tic case, and it's hard to believe that with this hand assembled set that the as-
semblor didn't notice that the coin going in was not standard.

One commemorative error that comes to mind is the Unc. 1989-D Congress Bicentennial Sil. Dollar with dies rotated 360 degrees rather than the normal "coin turn" of 180.
