Problems w/ PayPal?

Now I know why so many sellers do not use PayPal !
In the last few days I tried to pay for eBay auctions using the"BuyIt Now' option with PayPal. All failed. For some reason they refused to accept my password. I tried everything ,even called their TOLL number where I was told I'd have to wait 9 minutes (on Long Distance at PRIME rates!!!) to speak to a human being. When they finally accepted my Password, I pressed "Continue"and went back to the Log In screen ad infinitum.
I'm finished with them. I switched over to Billpoint.
Any comments?

I have used PayPal a grand total of 1 time so not much past history or experience here. I thought it was simple enough when I used it, however, the problem(s) you are discussing would pi$$ off the Pope (assuming he used PayPal)image
  • Twowood...

I have a comment if you are intertested. Recently I had the same problem with "wrong password"... it was not wrong but there you are.
I found a e-mail link and complained, stated that i could not and would not make an international call (I am in Norway). I just said it costs too much and I was sure I would get into one of these... press number....

Anyway, I left me name, e-mail addres and phone number (my mobile phone number).

I received a call from a GREATLY helpful lady. She gave me an emergengcy log-in password, where I could change to my own password... She also gave me her telephone number in the USA which she said was an "answer/message" contact. I should just then leave my name and phone number and that she would phone me back so that I did not have to pay for the call.

Everything worked GREAT for me and I am 100% satisfied. (I was very frustrated when I could not access Paypal)...... I was trying to pay a member on this forum for an item..... I had to beg off and apologise.

Use the e-mail contact. It worked great for me.

  • Double check that you are doing things correctly.Cap locks off, you're not hitting two keys accidently, things like that.Ive used Paypal over two hundred and never had a problem.
  • Switching to BillPoint might not be much better. eBay purchased BillPoint quite a while ago. eBay recently purchased PayPal. So eBay ultimately owns both services. I expect BillPoint to be phased out shortly...
  • I use paypal a lot. I am a ebay powerseller (not coins) and like the quickness of getting paid. I am not fond of the fees they charge but I can live with it. I also wanted to pass this info on to you. Paypal has a toll free number and I find there customer support to be not to bad. Here is the info:
    Customer Service Center

PayPal Customer Service Agents are available to help you 7 days a week, from 6 am to midnight CST.

    Call us toll-free at: 1.888.221.1161

Please have the following information available when you call:
    Your telephone number
    Your email address
The last 4 digits of your credit card or bank account registered with PayPal

    Hope it helps!

I've been using paypal as a buyer and seller for a few years. Not one problem. Make sure you're not overreacting to a problem that can be simply rectified. I also agree with Carl W., and since Ebay purchased paypal, Billpoint will eventually be phased out. I hope you can work out your problems there, as the fees are higher with Billpoint, and not as many sellers use that service. Good luck.

Check the date on your computer--- here is the technical problem, it has happened to me on other sites...

When you log in, a cookie (little text file) is placed on your computer and it tells your computer how long before you are logged out of PayPal (obviously extened if you are using the logged in time, based on how long you are idle). If your clock is set too far ahead (my computer was set a year ahead) your machine will be told to log you out just under 1 year before you logged in, hence the trouble.

So make sure the date is right as that could keep you from ever logging in.

  • Twowood,

Airplanenut is correct. Sometimes you have to delete your cache and cookies to clear out the junk from previous sessions. That has worked for me in the past.

BTW, airplanenut, what's with the flag?

Sometimes after I toss my cookies I have to let my firewall down and log in fresh to get new cookies.
Did you try the "forgot your password" link?
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • My stupid sending limit is all gone! Can you believe that? With a credit card you would think that there would be a bigger limit.image

  • PayPal's starting to sound like trouble from all angles....
  • I turned the cookies off quite a while ago, and still use PayPal for most auctions. Temporary 'per session' cookies is still enabled, and other than not being able to review the total account it's been okay.

I still have to turn it back on to use Billpoint, or eBay brings me back to the log-in page repeatedly.

    Just cookie-phobic, I guess.
