I have purchased a few Standard Silver patterns. Indeed, one of them is a quarter with a design similar to the half you bid upon. I am surprised by the high price of the half dollar you bid upon. Before the auction I would have guessed that your bid was going to either win the coin or be within a few hundred dollars of winning it. In fact, looing at the auction results, it looks like all the Standard Silver went for high prices. Check out this particular coin: R-8 dime. This coin, a rare R-8 stuck in aluminum, which is a tough metal to find, went for less than the half dollar you bid upon. Again, beofre veiwing the auction prices, I'd have guessed that the half dollar was going to sell for less than the dime. I wonder why the particular piece you were interested in went for so much....

I would love to have that one.
I can see why you wanted it.
