IS NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING PERFORMED ON DIES

In other words do they check dies for the slightest hint of a crack starting using (NDT) Non Destructive Testing method?

Die steel is a very hard steel and very high tech. I believe it is still annealed before
being hubbed once. It is highly unlikely that this steel is X-rayed or the like before
being used since this would be considered a non critical application. Production runs
of coins are checked frequently for problems in the dies or the press.

Yes, proof dies are identical to production dies except more detail is normally
imparted to the proof dies and they are highly polished and now chromed.
Proof coin production is watched much more closely for problems, and smaller
    deviations are tolerated.
