First, thank you in advance for reading all the way to the end I have LOTS of questions...
First on auctions:
1- Is there a place where I could locate local (coin) auctions, or do they not exist and I have to wait for a major show?
2- Do I need to be 18 or up to participate in one?
Mail Bid Auctions:
1- Are there any good ones with some nice coins? All I know of is JJ Reeves.
Bid Boards:
1- Same as above- know of any good ones online?
Jeremy
PS- How many sites that you list will allow a minor to participate?

Regarding age and bidding at auctions, I think it will depend on the auction house and your/your family's relationship with them. I was fourteen when I first bid at an auction, but I came to the auction with a letter from my father asking that I be allowed to bid on his behalf.
Regarding mail bid sales, my impression is that quality can be quite doubtful. Especially companies that run both auctions and mail bid sales (eg - Stack's) will for good reason reserve the better material for auctions. There are occasional borderline bargains at the mail bid sales, but sight unseen bidding is iffy.
Apologies for these generalities, I imagine others can give you more specific information.
