Question for Russ and other "hoarders"

Russ, et. al.:
I recall reading a message in which you said you had 20-some AH Kennedy halves. Now, don't get me wrong, I think ALL ways of collecting coins are neat and cool, but why are do you concentrate on one particular date? For instance, I like commemoratives because I think that having all the different design types is interesting and I like dimes because I like the "thrill" of trying to complete a date/mint-mark set. And I can readily understand why people collect errors. But these motives are missing when you collect one particular date. Can you, or someone else, explain the rationale behind collecting one particular coin? What am I overlooking?
Thanks in advance.

WHen I do that, I would probably find one type of coin, be it an d/d or the 64-L that I would try to get a lot of- its the thrill of the hunt or the cherrypick
