gem proof pcgs deep cameo barber quarter

pcgs proof65 deep cameo 1910 barber quarter 65/66 for the grade and solid deep cameo reverse with a deep cameo plusplus obverse which is not only ultra rare for a barber quarter obverse but for a post 1900 barber quarter!!!!!!!!! in other words usually you see the deep cameo on the reverse but the obverse barely makes cam!

this coin also looks much better in person with clean clear not hazy or cloudy or white spotted mirrors a coin like this is very hard to scan and the human eye needs to see this coin!

and this coin is one of the first strikes off of a new fresh die! as the designs meet the fields at a 90 degree angle the reverse is a no brainer very nice 66++ with only light hairlines in the fields at 3 and 9 pm keeing this coin from 66++

and this coin was once in a 66 holder!!!!!!!!!!!

yes yes yes

but someone cracked it out of its respective holder and got the 65.......lol
this coin is worth more out of its holder than in its holder

OH WELL BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME...............LOL LOL LOL

sincerely michael

Michael you know Barbers are my favorite after Morgans. That is a great coin. The frost & mirrors are amazing! It does look well struck. I do see some white spots behind Liberty's head but the scan magnifies them you probably have to look very close to see them in person and they are barely noticable then. I know the speckles you see by the date & rev stars are not problems but an effect of die or planchet preperation and you don't see them without magnification. I feel more comfortable with it as a 65. I don't like hairlines on a 66. Ain't it weird that the hairlines are always on the right side obv field?
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

you are absolutely right on your observations dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and also the hairlines are always in the right field....lol never fails and again you are right this coin is a very nice 65 and as it should be!

very astute you have an excellent eye dog!

your accessment of the coin and its charactistics are correct! the deep cameo is deeper in person though but with photos even the best ones are really noyt good as usually the coin needs to be sight seen and then by someone who knows waht they are looking at and all that together is a rare very rare combination!

I agree with dog, I like this coin as a 65. If it was 66 it has those hairlines in right field obverse that takes away 66. The person that cracked it out of a 66 holder had a gift. Michael, why did he crack it out? It's a nice eye appealing 65.

I have to add something and you guys are going to jump on me but thats ok. I see a lot of times people say well you can't see this mark or this scratch without a glass. And I understand your meaning is it's not distracting to the eye.

But I always laugh to myself thinking isn't that why we have the darn things? Ok I feel better having said that.image

you are absolutely correct stman !! and i guess for me it is very hard to put a single grade on coins and some need to be evaulated! i guess it comes down to onw thing the overall eye appeal of the coin!

the grading services pcgs/ngc really overall do a very great job with what they have to deal with

they have to do it in a fast efficient and cost effective manner and do it overall correctly............. wow to me an almost impossible task

but like i said they overall do a great job. just make sure if you buy a coin in one of these holders only buy great coins with superb eye appeal

then i think you got the cream of the crop!

Michael I agree the services do their best. But my question was, you mentioned it was in a 66 holder. And the guy cracked it out and it came back 65. I didn't understand if it was 66 why send it back in?

Thats what I meant it was a gift.

well yes i see and understand waht you mean

i guess with the crackout game some have great expectations based on much inexperience

well here is one coin that finally got correctly graded!!!......lol like you say a very nice 65 but not a 66 at least not this time around......lol and really you can show a coin to the most experienced specialists in a certain field and they will never ever agree! grading is an art not a science and most all coins could go a point or at the very least half a point either way just the way it is

just make sure if you buy a coin in a holsder it is a great coin has great eye appeal and is correctly graded and better yet undergraded

michael you mean the cracker thought it was a shot 67?

stman I say that thing about a glass a lot. Kinda like this: You make a scan of a coin that looks clean to post here asking for opinions or to sell it and the enlarged pictures show spots and hairlines you never noticed. So you say wow my scanner went funky and get a glass and look at your coin and sure nuff the spots & hairlines are really there. image

hi there dog! well maybe just like the way they advertise the lottery here in ny state a dollar and a dream
  • Hi Michael,

As you know I own the other 1910 PCGS PR65 DCAM 25c. Mine has light peripheral toning. I wish that I had a scan of mine, sorry. I love these DCAM Barbers, especially the post-1900 years. Post 1900 DCAMS are especially RARE!

The only post 1900 year that I am surprised not to see a DCAM graded by the PCGS yet is the 1911. If a gem example surfaces you know that I'll be all over it like acne on a fry cook.

I'm also hoping a 1907 will surface in the near future in DCAM. The 1907, 1910 and 1911 are my predictions for the only years that will have coins graded in DCAM post-1900 for the Barber quarter proofs. If another year makes the grade I will be really surprized.
