I hope we ALL make it to 50+

Below is posted the results of the recent age survey for the forum....

Something pretty wierd going on. Look at how many of us are 40 something! Then - WE DISSAPPEAR at the ripe age of 50. Not ALL of us but MOST of us simply vanish...

Spooky, huh? Do we just leave the forum? Do we stop collecting? Do we just stop responding to surveys? Do we stop responding and posting in the forum?

OR - do we just STOP??? (if you know what I mean)

creepy

Maybe a lot of people started collecting in the sixties when we were kids.
  • I think it probably has as much to do with the age of the average internet user as it does the average coin collector. More under 50 that over 50 on the 'net I bet.

Although...my dad bought his very first computer and got online two years ago at the age of 72. My mom can't get him off the thing now. image

  • Don't forget the internet is a new technology to them. My parents if i put them infront of a computer and ask them to look at a window they would look outside. CHRIS

The average age of the membership at this forum is far higher than most forums. Typical tech forum is early twenties.

  • My dad is 67 and built his first computer from healthkit. He's as good as most webmasters and has been using them since they came out. I have 3 aunts and all they do is surf and play games online and do geneology research.
Maybe some older folks are more "computer challenged" but I think a lot of older folks actually use the computer more than us 40 something crowd.

I think the card guys are a lot younger.
  • I think the age thing (most computer users are younger). And this from someone who never touched one until he was 41 and whose 85 year old father bought his first computer yesterday. Man, does he send some strange e-mails!!

  • I started using the puter when I was in my 30's. My first was a Sharp laptop from Radio Shack that used DOS.

My mother, 81, and father, 91, won't touch them, not even for email. My uncle (mother's brother), who is 83, loves them and has been using one for years.

Not too surprising except for the dearth of people in their early 50's. They
are certainly part of the baby boom generation and many of them collect
coins and have a computer, so why are so few here?

I don't know about everyone else, but I started collecting 35 years ago. Bought my first DOS computer in 1986. First one with internet access in 1996. I can't see myself ever stopping. And yes, Im 40!
