why are these both AU-55

When i look at them both on the rev. of the 1912 the left feathers, the upper right of the shield and the eagles head all look alot more worn then on the 1892. Is it just a stronger strike or time to crack it out and upgrade?

I would guess the 1892 got a 55 more for the hits on the face and neck and the 1912 for the wear.

To me the 1912 looks more like an AU-50/53.

The 1892 looks accurately graded. The cheek and neck areas certainly looks like it lost a bit of luster due to the circulation chatter. A definite AU-55. Possible AU-58 but no more.

  • Both coins show very light wear on the high points - almost as if they had been both taken out of circulation at about the same time, or maybe handled a bit too much in someone's collection. At any rate, the 92 does look a little better than the 12 so I would give a 55/50 edge to that one.

The 1892 looks accurately graded, MAYBE a chance to go to au/58, but there are some scattered obv. marks, and the luster may be lacking. The 1912 looks softer, but has some natural tone to it, and seemingly less marks. I'd say they are both close enough, pick your poison. image

    MBBIKER,

I would like to also add that, it is also possible that the reverse has less of an impact on the overall grade, where these two are concerned.
