Two months ago, this 1858 FE ..was a lovely MS63+ or MS64 coin with terrific luster. Then some clumsy oaf (oops, it was me) knocked it off his desk and straight into an opened can of paint remover.

I see Pat has his bid in on it.
Ya,Its a bad cleaning ,but it still may be low-MS.
The strike is funny in that its real strong in areas,yet a few areas show some weakness.
Overall though,its a great coin to me.

I don't know this series very well. Something other than the color is wrong. Maybe just the scan, but some of the detail around the rim on the reverse looks wrong. Is it genuine or maybe of recent
manufacture?
