There ARE honorable, honest sellers on eBay...

RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
We spend a lot of time smacking the less desirable sellers and I think it can sometimes be easy to assume that eBay is a snakepit infested with nothing but vipers waiting to take a bite out of our butts. The experience I just had is precisely the opposite.

Last Friday I posted a thread about the fact that I had gotten three coins in that day, and that all three were going back. Two had come from one seller, the third from another. When I eMailed these sellers, they both responded without hesitation and said they'd make it right by handpicking replacements that met my standards. Shipped the coins back Monday.

I just got a "you've got cash" eMail from Paypal. In the mail was a note from one of the sellers (the single coin) that, after checking his stock, he didn't feel any of his replacement coins would be up to snuff, so he was refuding my money. But that's not all. He also refunded shipping costs - both ways. Now I know why this guy has over 2800 positives and no neutrals or negatives.

His name is Chris Grady, and his eBay handle is gradycoins.

He and I WILL be doing business again.

Who was the other seller? I always like to know who the good guys are. I think it is very cool that they tried to get you replacements for the coins you weren't happy with.

    Thanks.

That's outstanding. I shall also keep these rare individuals in mind when purchasing.
    Thanks for the positive report!

    goyankeez,

The returns/replacements are still in process with the other seller so, other than his quick, responsive eMail, I don't have a final outcome yet. Will reveal/report once that happens.

  • Fair enough.

    Thanks.

Yep, I have dealt with some great sellers also. Actually for the most part 90% of the sellers I have not had any issues with.
  • My wife has over 4400 positives and no negatives/neutrals and I just started and have over 400 positives against 0 negatives/neutrals. Therefore, although it may be biased, I decided that I am one of the good guys also - even though I only sell modern junk.

  • I agree there are more honest sellers then scammers. So lets have a thread titled, List your favorite Ebay seller.

Good feedback, Russ! Thanks for posting the story.

It might not be Russ's standards that are too high, a lot of coins don't look exactly like their pictures.

But, it still is a lot of fun to "smack the less desirable sellers". imageimage

  • I had a seller two weeks ago offer me the refund before he got his coin back! I was floored and told him it was just "good business" to wait until he recieved it. His reply "I have been doing this for a long time and I have never been burned." Wow.

Good customer relations is a key as to why they may come back again and again.
  • his ID rings a bell. i think i bought from him in the past. good post(even if its 5 yrs old). nice to hear about the positives about ebay. a fair return policy and 100% feedback and you can`t go wrong. i`ve hit the 500 feedback(over 700 total) and no negs or neutrals. i too say most sellers are good people. it`s not that hard to avoid the bad sellers. image

there are good sellers. A tip that I have found helpful... look at all the material being offered by the seller before bidding. I think this helps understand the sellers grading, the type of coins they may handle and whether they tend to be problematic.

  • And Russ, we're still anxiously awaiting the outcome on the other two coins! image

Wow, a blast from the past. At the time I was building the complete proof Kennedy set and I kept running in to coins with haze. I hate haze.
