My latest 2¢ piece acquisition, how'd I do?

1864 Two Cent piece, PCGS MS62 RB. I needed a graded mint state piece with which to compare the raw ones I've been buying. Pricing info on these seems to be pretty scarce, so I'm not sure if I paid too much. What are the expert opinions here?

Russ, whats happening to you when i came to the forum you were all for Kennedy's and nothing else now your going around and buying old copper? Are you going to try and corner the market for 1864 SM coins just like you are doing with AH kennedys?

I love the color. After 140 years, it's amazing they can retain some original red.

I don't know how much these go for, but for under $100 it looks like a good deal.

price sounds right on. 1864 is the perfect type becuase they are so common. i think 2c's are one of the top-5 or so bargains in all numismatics. only 1 coin is even slightly expensive ('73) & the 2 "keys" are cheap relative to other series. bonus: you only need 11 coins to complete the set!

i have a set minus 1873, a couple uncs but mostly only about vf grade or so.

SSSSHHHH.... The contrarian in me took a look at the fact that they don't seem to be very popular and yet have a ton of neat history behind them, so I decided they'd be a good one to collect.

BTW, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that 1873 is a proof only year. For the business strike only set, the last year would be 1872; those can be a little pricey, though, as the mintage dropped down to only 65K.

correct also. however, the 1873 is frequently found as a circ'd proof, so you could get one for 1/2 price. i saw one once in a PR-6 SEGS holder - the lowest-graded proof coin i have ever seen.

From the scan, I like the look of the coin, but a 62 r/b is a funny grade for copper. Most likely cleaned and recolored at one time, or something similar. Unless there's a huge gash or mark that we can't see from the pic's, then that may explain the grade. No matter, for $90 you did well. It LOOKS much better, from the scan. I think I was going to bid on that coin.
