people who shill bid on ebay....i think its stupid at least cancel the auction or something no need to raise bids when you have people
who are trying to get the card at great value....i see people do this all the time...just wondering.

It's definitely shady. It's prohibited on ebay, but many people still do it. At the same time, as a buyer your trying to get the best deal, as a seller, you want to get the most. Works both ways.

My take is let the bidders (bidders who actually want the card) decide the price. Thats the way its meant to be.

I dont like it too. as a buyer, i too know that i want to get the best deal. eBay tries to prohibit this but they cant, because as long as its another name, they can bid on it. Its a shame though...

i admit that i bid on my auction. However it was not to raise the price of the auction. See funnyguy0015 is selling my lot for me and someone bid 70 and i wanted to see if the persons bid was 80 or exactly 70. SO i used my aman0027@aol.com (my only account) to bid on it. Something you didnt point out- I retracted my bid. No harm in that, right? the bids were not counted!

Aaron, I'm more than a little surprised you are trying to justify this.

You used another account to check to see what the high bid was. So, technically maybe it wasn't a shill - it was a bid to check how high the high bid (which was at or above your reserve for the auction already) was. Cancelling that bid does not undo the purpose of the bid, it only makes the purpose more clear. Within 10 minutes after your "exploratory" bid, you cancelled the auction.

BTW, which cards are "damaged"?

Of course, you could always just offer the high bidder the right to buy the lot at your reserve price, plus shipping.

yes shill bidders suck, but i guess in the end you bid what you're willing to pay, and if you still win for that price (or less) then both sides should be happy.

and i watched aarons auction, and was quite eager to find out why it had been ended. thanks for clearing that up guys. as amfox1 said, why would you even bother justifying what you did? not only that, but before you were "exposed", you hypocritically expressed how bad it was! it doesnt make one shred of difference that you retracted your bid. the purpose of your bid was questionable. you (and any seller for that matter) has the right to end the auction early, but it frustrates buyers when you do it just prior to the auction's close. why not put your opening bid or reserve at a level that you're willing to sell at and let the buyers set the final price if it meets your reserve?

I do it all the time. There is a certain price I want to get for a card, I have a freind bid it up, and if it sells for higher, great, and if not, I'm stuck with the ebay fees and I have to relist. I think it's become so common that people have moved on.

I do know how you feel, I have certainly felt the sting of watching a shill up my bids. The way I figure it, when I put $30 on a card that's at $12, I will pay up to $30, so I can live with it if it goes up. Seller's are shilling because they know many ebayers won't touch reserve auctions, and they're scared of their cards getting sold at super low levels. I doubt you'll find many ebay sellers who haven't asked a freinf to up a card for them before.
