eBay vs Yahoo! Which do you prefer?

After reading the boards for a few months, I see that most postings regarding auctions link to eBay. And haven't even seen one for Yahoo! As a relative new collector, is one really "better" than the other? I suppose that eBay is bigger, and thus offers more coins. (Currently, there is slightly over 70,000 items in US Coins on eBay, and only 12,000 items in the US Coins category on Yahoo!.) So you may have a better selection on eBay. But what about other factors? Have you been more disappointed with sellers on Yahoo! or eBay? For those of you that have used both, are the fees similar, or is one more expensive? What are some of your general thought on the 2? How about other online auction sites that you use?

I think the near unanimous opinion is that (in general) yahoo's auctions are considerably less quality than ebays. If you can imagine it.
  • I would agree that ebay is the better of the two. Yahoo prices dont seem as competitive and there seems to be more hyped junk on yahoo. IMHO Kris

  • yahoo is for the junk that can't even sell on ebay. I like to look at the oakleys for sale because i work at a oakley dealer and know how to spot fakes in just a few sec. E-bay about 90% of the "real" oakleys are real, but on yahoo about 9 out of 10 were fake but they were being sold as real. If i were you i would stay away from yahoo auctions

Nah, it's a bunch of good-fer-nuthins around these parts. Otherwise known as "them yahoos"
  • I've sold on both Yahoo and Ebay and all other matters aside-Yahoo just doesn't have the bidding buyers that are present on Ebay.image

I'm begining to think I better close my Yahoo! account, and open up an eBay account.

Ooops, wahoo was the fish I was thinking of. There's never anything or anybody on Yahoo and when there is it's usually some kind of scam.

Yahoo is also not to be confused with yoohoo.

I can't help thinking that this is probably something someone would yell after winning a modern PCGS pop 1 coin for $2000+ in an ebay auction. It must be that exciting.

  • Sometimes you get a good deal on Yahoo from new seller. I bought a nice 1948 FBL Franklin PCGS MS 65 for under $60!
