1798 Draped Bust Large Cent. Seller says AG, but I think he's dreaming. Looks barely FR to me.

You know, this seller has quite a lot of Braddick material. I think Pat could really speed up the growth of his "worst" sets by working with this guy.image

    Oh, I'd stoop that low. . .
Only problem is PCGS won't. That slight corrosion will slow down the grading process on this one. It'll see plastic, but not the hard, holder kind, but the soft, bodybag type.

He does have a boatload of other stuff though- time to go trolling through his coins.
    One problem: He's from Floridia. . . ;(

  • Pat,

I heard PCGS was moving to Florida.imageimage

Just got my report back with a nice G04 1914-S Barber half.

Its going into safe keeping with my pop 1 Sac and Ike.image

    MORE competition!

  • I think everyone should try and put together braddick quality sets, that way a fr-2 and a ms-69 would be priced the sameimage

  • Im Not Worthy, Im Not Worthy!

    No Competition here!

I would never dream of attempting anything as nice or as difficult as the Famous Braddick Collection. But I have Slowly come around to the point where I appreciate the character of a nicely worn coin just as much as a high end coin.

The Barber was from a group of coins that PCGS had bagged a couple of times before but I endeavored to persevere and in the end they saw the light!

  • Please explain to me how this is AG?
It's the "hunt" that makes this such a great hobby...
  • I can't hold a candle to any of those things! I wish I could find a pop 1 p01 Sac, myself.

Why is it that the longer I participate in this forum, the more I like flat worn-out coins?

  • this forum will make you like anything if you stay here long enough, just look how many people started collecting kennedy halfs.
  • The one thing that I wonder about FR coins is how is the date determined? I could stare all day long at some of these and wonder how someone determined a date when it is worn completely smooth. How do you determine the date on a Braddick style Buffalo nickle?

    << <i>acid date?image >>

The only Buffalo in my "Worse Known" Registry is a GD06 3-Legged. It's pretty worn out, and the missing leg gives it away, if the date were not as readable.
Finding a PO01 one of these will be a challenge (on the Type 2's). If there is enough date to determine then that means the rest of the coin would have too much detail to warrant the lofty grade of PO01.
Ahhh... the challenges of this hobby. Will it ever end?
