Ghosts again: 1933 Quarter Dollar

Anyone ever hear of this one? Even Breen doesn't mention it, even though he mentions such "ghosts" as the 1931 SLQ, the 1964 Franklin, and the 1959 Wheatie

1933 Washington Quarter?
Philately will get you nowhere....

Whoa! First I've heard of that one - and they claim five examples confirmed!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Man, these things are really coming out of the closet! I wonder if any of the following exist:

    1. 1909 Indian cent with wheat reverse
    2. 1909 Lincoln cent with wreath reverse
    3. 1946 Mercury dime
    4. 1948 Walking liberty half dollar
    5. 1965 Kennedy half on a 90% silver planchet
    6. 1971 Kennedy half on a 40% silver planchet
    7. 1936 Peace dollar

What else is out there? image

To compensate for my being born the year they starting making cheap clad instead of 90% silver coins, and the fact that the '65 SMS is one of the cheapest sets around, I always thought it might be nice to have one of those 1965 dimes struck on a 90% planchet. I wonder if any '65 silver quarters got struck? That would be neat. Not cheap, though, I would imagine.

Last I heard there were three or four 90% silver 1965 quarters and
there is a unique !964 in cheap clad!

Man, these really are coming out of the closet now! I need to read that link you posted. I also wonder about the 1964-D peace dollar. Surely these are hanging around somewhere....
  • The 1965 silver quarters do exist. I saw one this past weekend in Cincinnati in an ANACS slab.

Yes, Conder, I saw one somewhere, too. And thought it was neat.

But not "neat" enough for me, in proportion to its price!
