2001 Silver proof sets

OK,when did the 2001 silver sets start to go up in price and why.
I bought mine from the mint thru the online services and they screwed up and doubled my order.since it was my girls birth year I just decided to keep them.12 sets in all.I gave a couple away to family as gifts but never realy thought about them much.Today I am browsing ebay and they are going for well over $60.00.Plus S/H.
how high are these sets going.AND WHY.Anyone got any actual numbers on sales?

There was a thread here last week about this. Something to do with the ups and downs of the previous two years. The 1999 silver set is fairly expensive therefore many 2000 silver sets were bought. The 2000 set is dogging it now, so fewer 2001 sets sold, price goes up. Kind of like a see-saw effect.

    That's the thumbnail scetch anyway.
  • I have two up for auction on E-bay right now. I got them not thinking about turning a profit but what the heck. They are around double the purchace price right now how high will they go who knows.

  • Well you might want to read this. I had heard rumors but was not sure. This article might help explain the rising values.
  • Thanks for the article. But it begs the question,Why are the 2000 silver sets selling so cheap?I got 2 of those off ebay about 4 months ago at below mint prices.
