Anyone ever buy from Heritage Auctions

I was thinking of bidding on a bust dollar at the upcoming Heritage auction, and was wondering if they are good people to deal with. I know they are a big company, but sometimes smaller collectors like me are lost in the cracks when it comes to questions and customer service. Any experiences you care to share??

I have bought several items from Heritage. I have never had a problem with the auctions or their service. Online payment is available and fast delivery exists for online payments.

  • I won a lot twice. They turned out OK. If I remember correctly there is no return policy so these would work much better for the floor bidders who can get to see the coins first. Don't forget to add in the buyers fee when calculating your max bid...
  • Yes, I know the buyers premium gets right up there, but all part of the game I guess. I am registered directly with them rather than ebay, as it is 5% cheaper on the premium. It ios always hard to buy from pictures. You are right the floor bidders do have an advantage, but I can't afford the flight out there just to look at one coin either.

I have had a delay after a major auction getting the coin. The regular auctions fast shipping.
They do now offer a 3 day return privledge on most auctions.
It's like eBay or teletrade the coins can vary from poor to pq.
    The big pictures are nice.
I think it will be hard to find a larger selction of bust dollars than they have now for awhile.

The Albany Collection of Bust Dollars
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The owner of the Albany Collection became interested in coin collecting as a child in the early 1950s. His father ran a small cash business and let him rummage through the till each night to try to find old or rare coins in circulation. Over a ten-year period, he was able to put together a nice circulated collection of Cents, Nickels, Dimes, and Quarters. Later, after retirement in the early 1990s, he turned his attention to early Bust Dollars, assembling a fairly complete variety collection. The result is ninety unduplicated varieties, nearly all certified in XF to AU grades, many of which are Rarity-5 to Rarity-8. You will be astonished at his accomplishment.

It seems like if you try to be a good buyer and pay right away it confuses them and they send you late notices & demands for payment after you pay. So I let them send me the invoice before I worry about paying then mail a check and that seems to go with their flow of things. Don't be in a hurry because from the time the auction ends, they invoice you and you pay and finally get coin in hand it takes a month.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • I have won several auctions there and had no problem with them or the coins.

  • I just won an ebay auction with Heritage Numismatic Auctions in Dallas, TX. No problems so far.Their email replys have been prompt and professional. I was just PO'd that they don't use PayPal.

Placid and Dog97 are both right. Fast service on the regular auctions. Slow service on the bigger ones. Also confusing, sometimes, are the emails and invoices. Dog97 is right, wait till they invoice you. However, they do provide excellent personal service in my opinion. When I have had issues, they at least contacted me about my concerns. And, I have sold them some coins outright for very fair prices, again, that is in my opinion. Mark

I have purchased several coins from them and the service has been mostly fast. Last coin I bought was in my mailbox on Sat from a Tuesday auction and I had not even paid for it yet. They do accept credit cards online too which is nice.
Their return policy can cost you 10% or more of the auction total so I wouldn't bid unless I was pretty sure I would keep the item. You mite want to have them reaffirm their policy if the coin doesn't get to you as I usually have stuff dumped into my mailbox with no signature required.

  • I've purchased a lot from them, auction, on-line, and inventory, and all three worked fine for me. Never had an instance where I wanted to return a coin. The scans with the enlargement feature go a long way to making sure you see as much as you can before you buy. My only complaint is that their signature sale right now has some pretty strong prices, I'm not winning a single lot!
  • I have purchased a number of coins from Heritage and have had no problems. I found the best way to pay for auctions is with their online invoices. It takes a day or two for these to appear in "My Hieritage" section.

I have won once bidding on their last Long Beach Auction on my 58/7 FE.

I called the following monday and paid over the phone. Coin was in hand within 2-3 days.

    very quick and painless.

now I have bought from their site several times. Have only returned one thing though. Some 1931s lincolns that were all carboned up pretty bad.

unless you're bidding on something generic, like blast-white modern coins, i strongly recomment attending their auctions live, if you can. i think their images are awful. some ugly coins look much nicer in the images, but likewise some gorgeous coins (in person) that scan terrible.

i've bid both live and on-line, much prefer to bid live.

IMPORTANT: review their return policy BEFORE YOU BID. about 2 years ago, i wanted to return 2 (expensive) coins. NO return privilege at that time. they allegedly have 1 now, but you lose 8% (i think). BE CAREFUL, and you'll do great. however, again i WOULD NOT buy a bust dollar sight-unseen, esp. if over say $800.

1 last think, i've tried to sell coins to them before, and in every instance, found a higher buyer elsewhere. just my experience for what it's worth.

Never had a problem with them service wise. My only caveat is this: if you think you are getting a nice coin or PQ coin just because they have it listed in any of their sales, that isn't necessarily the case. You consign it, they will sell it.

Bought from them several times...No problems here. Very satisfied. Good luck!

I have had nothing but good luck with them. The only thing I will say is that the coin is better looking in person than their scans make them out to be. I am only talking about toned coins of course.image

If you want some advice: It doesn't matter who you buy from just do NOT buy a coin you haven't seen LIVE. You don't have to bid live just make sure you see ANY coin before you buy. That is the best I can offer you as far as advice. Buying "sight-unseen" is for the birds. image

  • I have purchased several coins from Heritage via auction and been very satisfied with the coins and the service. Factor in the 15% buyer's fee to your bid and you'll be fine. Good Luck.

I have only good things to say about Heritage auctions. One thing not mentioned here yet is that you can call and get a description. They will give you an honest call.

No problems with many purchases. I did return an MS63 half dime that I thought showed wear (was PCGS graded).

  • I've bought/won 40 to 50 coins/currency from them the past few years and have not had a single problem. If I buy from them, the coin is at my front door the third day after I pay for it and auctions are usually within two weeks of payment.
