I just won an 1853 No Arrows Half dime

And I looked in my little coin book and it says that this is one rare coin.

Tell me what to look for, what it may be worth, and how I can tell what I REALLY have!

Sorry, but if it is just an 1853 no arrows, then it is just a slightly better date, an r2 up to unc, and just and r3 in unc. Now if it was an 1853-O no arrows, then you would have something rare.

koinkrazy is quite right. The 1853 no arrows is only a slightly better date.
It is the 1853-O no arrows that is rare. On this New Orleans half dime, the date is always real bad. Only in the highest grades is a full date seen, with coins in the lower grades showing only the tops of the numbers.

I know the 1853 no arrows is supposed to be only a slightly better date but I have always found it to be relatively tough to locate. I have seen more of the semi-keys than I have the 53 no arrows. Now the 53-O no arrows, That is a very tough coin!

I saw that auction, Kranky. The half dime has arrows, and he says no arrows in his headline. The auction I linked is the one I think he means. We'll have to wait for him to let us know which coin he's referring to.
