My 50 card submission was rec'd by PSA on 9/05, grades posted 9/16 and in my hands coast to coast via registered mail on 9/18 - Pretty impressive! - However my 70 submissions from 8/27 is not completed though...jay
  • My last set registry special turn around was eight days (9/11 - 9/19).

For the "No Strike" special, received by PSA on 9/12, my grades came in today: invoice #8018350. I'm absolutely delighted with the results. Fifteen PSA 10s of Andy Pettitte's 1993 Bowman rookie! I think he may be a dark horse Hall-of-Fame candidate one day; he's a durable (except for this year) left-hander who is good for 13-17 wins a year, and a Yankee (which probably helps . . .)image
  • Matt,
I feel your pain...I've been checking for pop spikes since you shipped west...all in due time

  • I've got a small order of 35 in now.
Usually someone has word on the next special (if any)- anyone hear yet?
  • I have my grades from my order. PSA Recieved it the 16th ( there systems shows the 20th ) And I recieved the grades today. NOT BAD . THis was for the No strike special. 5 PSA 10's out of 20 for my Boggs set . A few were not part of the set.

  • They received mine on the 9th and I'm still waiting. I've had some bad luck lately.

    I am with you.
These threads always get me upset,
becuase everyone else gets 7-10 day service
and I end up with 26-30 day...

  • I found my latest situation interesting. My Invoice #8018571 was received on 9/16. So far no posting of grades. Starting with my own invoice on top, here are the twelve previous invoices submitted from the computer generated submission forms at PSA's site:

    Invoice - Rcvd - Posted

    8018571-9/16-not posted -- my invoice
    8018570-9/17-9/20
    8018567-9/16-9/25
    8018564-9/17-9/24
    8018558-9/16-9/20
    8018555-9/19-9/25
    8018554-9/18-9/27
    8018551-9/17-9/23
    8018550-9/20-not posted
    8018549-9/16-9/24
    8018545-shipped 9/26
    8018543-9/17-9/25
    8018539-9/12-9/17

I guess they stopped at my number for some reason. I know PSA is well within the guaranteed time, but it does seem a bit strange that all these others were completed and posted and mine wasn't.

So are they taking a couple of days off at PSA
to Reorganize after the departure of Danny?
or are the graders getting slower?
    or what?

  • Re my 9/27 post. EVERY invoice before and after my number (received 9/16) that was submitted has been graded. For some reason mine is still "in the system." However, it's only been 13 business days minus their shows. Regardless, it still doesn't make any sense.

I do know they are swamped because of the shows and the days following their return to the office are definately hectic. I still ask, "Why me?" considering some of the lightning grade postings.

    Dom,

I think a bigger question than "Why you?"

    should be

"Why aren't all of the invoices within the same grading service lined up as they come in - first in - first out?"

In the past, I've sent in several grading special invoices at the same time where they both log in the same day and one invoice takes two weeks longer than the other. I've also had times where one arrives after the other and the 2nd one grades quicker and is back in my hands before the 1st grades pop up.

PSA had made tremendous strides towards speeding up the turnaround time over the last year. Hopefully, they're reading these threads and realizing how people are perceiving the process and plan to address it.

I have looked at several of the invoices listed and gone in just checking other's ahead and behind. What I have found is that there have been a couple processed after 9/29. I have also not found any invoice that was received on 9/16 that has been posted. 9/16 seems to be the common date on these orders and I am hoping that is just a strange coincidence.

  • Out of curiosity, on the invoices that were received around the same time and have already been graded - isn't it possible they paid for faster service?
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?
  • murcerfanmurcerfan Posts: 2,329 ✭✭
size matters. would you start a 600 card invoice with 1 hour left in your work day??
or take 3- 10 card invoices and get them done and on their way, and be off to the nearest cheese bar??
  • LJB17LJB17 Posts: 252 ✭✭
It is definitely possible that these paid for faster service, but since quite a few of what I have seen are only 80s and later, I would assume they were on the same "no strike special" that I submitted under. I also agree that the size of the lot may play a roll, but my invoice was only 50 cards. I would be curious to know the size of the other individuals invoices that are stuck on the 9/16 receive date mystery. I am not angry, but curious as how the process works.

    crazysc, murcerfan,

Both valid points (maybe not the cheese bar...). But, as I mentioned previously - I've had several invoices for the same service get wildly different turnaround times - and sometimes the 2nd one in gets done first (and by several days).

The process definitely seems to have more "wildcard" in it than it should.

I had sent an e-mail to PSA with respect to this yesterday and just received this reply.

    "Hello,

We received your cards on 09/16/02. You are on the 12th business day with your order. This is not uncommon. Sometimes certain orders finish faster than others.

If you had any unusual cards in your order it would cause it to take the full amount of time. If any type of research is required on your cards that would prolong the grading process.

The grades of your cards are guaranteed to be posted within 30 business days. Your cards are in the grading room right now. I would recommend checking back with us next week for further progress.

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact customer service at 1-800-325-1121.

    Thank you"

I did have a few Tiffany cards and some from other slightly off sets like Topps Debut and Donruss Baseball's Best. Maybe those are considered more of the unusual variety. I am pleased with the reply from PSA and hopefully the grades will be up shortly.

#8019825 - impressive turnaround time of 8 business days, but disgusting grades. generally speaking, these cards were at least as sharp as most of the o-pee-chee 9's i've seen, which makes me wonder if using the smaller card savers resulted in some minor wear being inflicted during handling. but then again, i saw someone else allude to the "grader of death" in another thread, so perhaps it was just bad luck. anyway, next time i think about spending $6 a pop to grade $3 cards, someone please slap me upside the head.

  • I usually have good luck, 3-7 day turn arounds. This time is taking longer. Received 9/23 - still nothing. Oh well, they have till 11/1 if they want.

I am a little upset that the 1 card I sent back to them to have properly slabbed (79 slabbed as a 77, sent in as MECH ERROR) came back already with nothing done. Still in a 77 holder.

  • Great turnaround time at PSA. Submitted 169 vintage cards for $7.00 a piece at the Fort Washington show in Philly . Invoice number 863681 already graded and on the way back. Great job PSA keep up the good work.
  • ok... Now I am REALLY confused!

I sent in One set of 50 cards
(standard 80s-90s topps, fleer & donruss)
that was received on 9/19 and have
still heard NOTHING in 3 weeks...

then I send in TWO seperate invoices
(of 40 -50 cards each - standard stuff)
that were received on 10/3 and have
just gotten ONE of them back with
    grades posted Yesterday 10/10
    yet the other has nothing...

    Now,
My confusion is WHY is the First order
that had a TWO WEEK head start not
    being graded BEFORE the others????

    *side note*
I Also must have gotten the "Grader of Death"
on the invoice that has come back...
grades range from 9 to 2
(although I did have some old, "much-loved"
cards on this invoice, I had expected a coulple
of 10s and nothing lower than a 5!)

It is often a "draw of luck" with when your submissions get graded. As long as they are turned around within the guaranteed time, there is not much you can do about it, I think. Your experience is not unusual, BKAH. The PSA system is not a first-come, first-served basis -- though it probably operates like that a vast majority of the time.

As for the Grader of Death -- I understand that the grading seems to be slightly tougher now than a month or so ago...

    Bigkid,

    You're not alone...

I've got two invoices in at the moment - both 60's, 70's 80's specials. One arrived on 10/1 for 203 cards (this one just started the grading process yesterday) and one arrived on 10/3 for 147 cards. I've been told that the one arriving on 10/3 is almost finished.

The only thing that I can think of is that the first invoice had a bunch of 72 OPC's and 72 Kellogg's ATG cards on it. The 2nd invoice is all straight Topps from the 60's.

In the end - I try not to let it bug me - but it would be easier to take if we received more information.

    Invoice Received - 10/01/02
    Card Research - 10/01/02

    Grade Review - 10/11/02
Card Encapsulation - No Date Specified
Grades Posted - No Date Specified
Date Shipped - No Date Specified

I'll settle for PSA looking for where they can refine and improve an "already good" process and make it even better down the road.

Would you be willing to pay more for this information? Which is more imprtant: keeping costs down or upgrading service levels? I am not hearing cases where people are getting service levels that are worse than what they signed up for. I think the unbelieveable service that we have received on the set registry special deal has made everyone a bit anxious.

The turnaround threads really get everyone excited because if submitter A received his cards in 3 days...then mine should be right around the corner. The bigger picture is that the service is a bargain to begin with and even if our service is a couple of weeks behind submitter A, we are still receiving an incredible value.

    Regards,

    Alan
