Invaluable advice - Great detective work!

Having only joined a few days ago I contacted a very informed member about the series I enjoy most - Indian Head Cents. I had a particular question about a small planchet flaw on an IH I purchased this summer. Not only was my question answered, but this member had a link in his reply asking if the coin I bought was this one. I clicked the link and it was my coin!! He had, just by my description, remembered and located the auction archive from last July which pictured my exact coin!! Amazing. Not only did he assure me the coin was a beauty (which is plain to see in person), but he passed on some other links which helped me compare my coin to another - same date and graded the same to compare. It seems this board has at least one expert who seems to know where every high grade Indian Head is lurking!! I'm not going to mention any names *cough ... Shylock.. cough* but thanks to this board I'm already feeling more educated about this series!

    IH's are not my expertise but they are Shylock's! I don't think I have ever met someone that has the memory and knowledge to be able to remember the individual coins like he does!

    Shylock does this every day of his life! As someone implied, I seriously doubt that there is an IHC that Paul does not know on a personal level. No matter how many times he does it, I never cease to be amazed at the man's knowledge!

    I think this is wonderful. I'm also glad that you took the time to post your thanks for Shylock. I've always enjoyed reading Sylock's posts.

    The folks that habitate this little cyber-place are typically pretty cool individuals.

    Shylock collects a different type coin than I. I have really enjoyed his detective work he has shared with the forum. I know him to be a very kind and out going person. Glad he was able to help(with indians tho, who else would you ask?),he is an asset to this communtity.

    Shylock helped me out on an IHC also, forget the year, but it was a Snow-2, broken pnch(part of date numeral missing). He does know his IHC and is willing to share his knowledge, great guy.

    You know, when I saw "great detective work" in the thread title, I just knew you were talking about Shylock. He is just amazing!

    New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    I have come to realize how little I really know about the history, varieties, and vagaries in the IHC market until I showed up here and started reading Shylock's postings. It's helpful to have an unbiased, knowlegeable point of view, with no hidden agenda behind it.

    Shylock is an expert at imaging coins and he always seem to retain an image in his photographic memory.
