Scratch=body bag or not?

I have seen many coins in ngc or pcgs holder with scratches on them yet anacs will net a coin with even a small scratch.

I am wondering about this because I have about 5 coins I had submitted to anacs get net grades for this and I am going to be sending in a pcgs batch and am thinking about cracking these anacs net coins and adding them in.

So has anyone had a body bag from pcgs for a scratch?

  • I have, but maybe you're asking about a less extreme case.

    I am talking about small scratches, when I got the coins back from anacs I had to look carefully to find what they were refering to.

    PCGS will bodybag your scratched coins, it happened to me on a 1934 Peace Dollar. I then sent it to ANACS and got, BU details, scratched net AU50. Your wasting your money slabing a scratched coin.

  • PCGS body bagged a 42-S FSB dime of mine for a scratch that I did not see until I put it under my stereo scope. It is a very light, fine scratch, but it is fairly long and on the lower obverse of the coin.image

    Yes, Airplanenut's sae he was complianing about being graded 63 has a scratch the whole length of the sheild. I see coins with scratches in ngc holders as well.
    I guess maybe sometimes they just get by the graders.

    Thanks for the feedback, I won't bother trying then I wasn't sure if pcgs just deducted points or BB'd for them.
