Free offer for the "Slab" Collectors

I know there are a few on this board that collect examples of "Slabs" from different companies, and since I am moving and packing, I came across an old slab in my desk drawer from a coin I bought a while ago, a 1901-S $10 Liberty from US Grading and Certification Service (USGCS). It is not really a slab, but one of the early versions of a professionally graded coin that had the coin in a plastic holder in a flip. It was dated 4/13/88 and graded MS-63/63. The coin is now regraded and resides in an MS-62 slab, but if any of you slab collectors are interested, you can have the old slab for free (sans coin of course!). Just let me know. It's a pretty interesting piece of professional grading history. image

I hope Conder101 didn't need it for his research and collection, which has and will benefit the community at large.

  • I expect that conder already has one, given his extensive collection. However if he does not, I'm sure Pushkin wouldn't mind giving it up for the benefit of the community at large. It's interesting that the "slab" still has a photo of the coin, and a certificate with the guarantee and original owner listed.

Actually, I'd prefer to just decline the slab.
    Thanks,
  • I do have an example of the USGCS certificate but I would like to see a scan of this certificate just in case it is different from the ones I have seen. And that may be possible since none of the certificates from this company that I have seen so far have been dated, and they have all been registered to Paramount Stamp & Coin.
  • Well, it's also registered to Paramount Stamp and Coin Co. but it has the date listed at the bottom of the cert. Here is a couple pictures:

Hope this helps. Let me know who wants it.
  • Ok, other than having the date typed on the bottom it appears to be identical to the others I have seen. It is not a new variety. If Pushkin would like to have it again or if someone else would like it that is fine. If no one else asks and you would just be throwing it away then I would take it. I hate seeing these old certificates being lost. (Why do I get the feeling I may be starting up the "Old Slabs Home" where old certificates go to live out their retirement after their coins have moved on to "bigger and better things".)
