AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! I hate when this happens!

Especially to me! I bid on an eBay auction, for a 1908 NM Saint, Wells Fargo MS-65, and I was the only bidder at $800, which I thought was a fair price, and when I got home tonight, the bid was cancelled and the auction was ended with just over a day left because as the seller said, "accepted an offer in my home area." I know that sellers have every right to do so, but it still annoys me to no end!!! image

I hate that as well image
  • I feel your pain. What's worse is when you think you are gonna get a sweet deal on a no reserve auction only to have the auction canceled in the last 10 seconds. This has happened to me twice in as many months.
  • Well Bsqr, at least it happened over a day before the auction ended, so I had a little more time to fume. Though, I'm not sure what would be worse, having it ended early, or being outbid by a shill and seeing the auction come up again next week!

Unfortunately, this happens to me on occasion. I take coins to sell at my local shows, and the Ebay stuff with no bids comes too. Every once in a while I get a bid while the coin is being sold at the show. Not often, but it has happened.

  • I know that opinions vary greatly with regards to Ebay policies and etiquette, but I have never canceled an auction early and I never will. My feeling is that if an Item is listed it should be sold to the highest bidder, if the reserve is met. If you have an item up for sale you should not be trying to sell the item elsewhere, before the auction ends. If you need the money that quickly, then don't put it on Ebay. If the item has no bids and you cancel, no problem. I do agree that it is not against Ebay policy, but if the bidder does the same things, which does happen, then everyone comes down on the bidder. By this I mean if I bid $100 dollars for an item and find it for $75 in another auction........according to Ebay policy that is not a valid reason to cancel my bid. Again, I know that it happens everyday, but it doesn't make it right. As both a bidder and a seller on Ebay, I don't close auctions early, and don't cancel bids either. This is my opinion on the matter though others don't agree, which is fine.

Right On, Krypt-Zilla ! Hate them early cancellations - I ALWAYS remember those dealers and they seldom get repeat business.image
  • Krytonitecomics,

You're my kind of Ebay seller. I think you will be rewarded in the long run by Buyers for this kind of behaviour. Good luck on your auctions and be sure and let us know over on the BST board when you have something out on Ebay.
    Go well.

jtryka- I would not worry too much as these coins are easy to find. I bought one when they were first sold for $1,160. They sure have nice luster and strikes.
