I apologize for wasting everyone's time with this thread, but since there are a lot of us out here that never run across any coins, let alone hoards, I figured I would start a thread for those of us who are never given anything. I am not player hating on those that have had good fortune, because I am happy for them, I just thought I would impart a different spin on these re-occurring stories This thread is about listing your worst coin finds or listing the most disappointing thing that has happen to you while collecting. So if anyone has gotten a call from good old grandma stating she was sending some coins, only to receive a few AG wheaties.......this thread is for you.
I'll start us off:
Two Christmas's ago I got a call from my Step mother who told me about this coins book with coins she had picked up from a lady who's house she cleaned. It was to be a Christmas present for me. For 3 solid weeks I ran to the mail box hoping to see the package pick-up slip from the Post Office. Then it happened and I left work early the next day, walked into the post office and proudly handed the slip to the postal worker behind the counter. I reached my house in 14 seconds flat, jumped out of the car while it was still rolling, and proceeded to dismantle the cardboard box containing my treasure. Now you all know that I obviously did not come across the Eliasberg, Pittman, or Norweb collections of coins due to the tone of this post. What I did find was........:
(1) Well worn 1950 1 pfenning coin from Germany
(1) AU condition 1949 Arabic coin (I still have no idea what it is???)
3 VF 1970's Canadian Quarters
and the cherry on the top of the cake.............1 AU 1962 Lincoln Cent
After I spackled my damaged walls, turned off my car, and balled like a baby.......I called my step mother to thank her for the thoughtful gift.
I am sure there are probably better stories out there than mine, so...........
