Teletrade's "Rainbow Sale" Sunday!

braddickbraddick Posts: 23,965 ✭✭✭✭✭
Will you "be" there? I just recieved an email offering $25.00 off any lot for tomorrow's (Sunday's) sale.
Some tasty looking coins there. I especially like that ANACS Rainbow (you know the word!) 1972-S MS68 Ike. There are also a couple of Morgans and one Peace dollar that look great.
Any one else?
(I ask, also because it is so close to Long Beach I'm curious if this is a good time to have such a large Teletrade sale.)

  • I've been thinking about bidding on some of the coins.

Pat,ssshhhhh! That Ike is stunning. There are two coins I have my sights on. My plans are to buy one or the other. Depends on how stupid the prices get. There are several stunning coins up for grabs, but I fear the prices will be high.

The toned Morgan offering is particularly unattractive. I'm not sure what the opposite of "monster" toned is, but if you want to see several hundred examples, browse this catalogue.

I think I'll consider taking a shot at the Goldberg sale instead for toned material.

gemtone- Each and every coin I've purchased via Teletrade has looked no where as flat as their scans.
At the last Long Beach sale I was able to preview in their display many wonderfully colored coins and when I compared them to their internet images was shocked at how "detailed" the images were- yet how WRONG they made the coin look.
As dull and lifeless as most those Morgans look, it real life they're not! I bet some are real stunners.

I looked at almost every Morgan in that sale and only tracked about 5 or 6 decent enough for bidding. I have never seen that many HIDEOUS Morgans at 1 time.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I have to agree with Braddick. Teletrades scans/photos, rarely do justice to the coin pictured. The coins I have purchase on Teletrade almost always have much better eye appeal than expected. Mark

No argument here that the Teletrade photos typically fail to flatter their coins. However, in past "rainbow" offerings I could usually find more than just a few coins with some colors showing other than black ("charcoal"), brown ("gold"), and grey("silver"). That was not the case in this auction. There were 2 or 3 with the more desirable colors, but on only a part of the coin, and this was out of hundreds of pieces!

So, I think that Dog has accurately characterized the overall quality of the coins in this auction.

The key to me isn't the overall quality of the coins, morgans or others in this auction, the key is there are some knockout coins for sale. Who buys them all anyway.image In 3 three years of looking at their auctions, I have only purchase one IHC and it is PQ for the grade.

Yes, it will take a lot of searching simply to find any knockout coins on Teletrade. After all, if you had such coins, is this where you'd place them for sale? In the past I've found a few relly nice coins in their rainbow sales, but none in the last 2 such sales.
