rodney white being shopped?

Printed reports from Detroit yesterday hinted at future moves by the Pistons, as Joe Dumars said he’d like to add some depth at the center position… really? League sources said with the addition of Tayshaun Prince, and Richard Hamilton, the Pistons feel they have plenty of youthful scorers, and 2nd year stud Rodney White may be on his way out. The Pistons are rumored to have shopped a package of Rod White and Hubert Davis looking to add some interior presence. One team mentioned by league sources was the Portland Trailblazers (surprise), talk of the Pistons landing Bonzi Wells in some kind of sign and trade have circled the Pistons all summer, and again there is talk that Joe Dumars may be looking to the Blazers to replace the ‘impact guy’ they gave up to land Richard Hamilton. Speculation is simply that, speculation. The Blazers claim they will re-sign Wells, but with less than two weeks until NBA training camps open and Wells still unsigned, it seems likely that a long term deal between the Blazers and Wells may not be coming this summer, and like others who have not found their payday; Wells may take the Qualifying offer, placing him in the unrestricted free agency class of 2003. The way the rumor with Detroit plays out is Portland would land a Detroit #1 draft selection, Rodney White and Hubert Davis. Wells would head to Detroit on a six year deal with a starting salary at $5-6 million. The deal makes zero sense to me, and Blazers sources deny such a deal is in play. A more likely scenario would be White and Davis heading to Portland for Dale Davis, but with Dale in the final year of his contract and making almost twice what a White/Davis package would value in at, its seems unlikely they could or would make a deal. The Pistons are looking and it does seem like Davis or White will be moved in the next few days.
