Russ - Blue Jefferson Wannabe

When I first caught a glimpse of this I thought I had one of those "Blue Jeffersons". But, only his shoulder is blue. Now I know what it looks like in person, though. It's so blue, it doesn't even look real. But, I know it is because I broke it out of the cello myself.
The scan doesn't do it justice.

  • I am NOT a jeff wannabe.

However, i have an 82 Jeff proof (CAM, no doubt!!!) that has a hint of blue around the rim. In another 25-30 years, i bet it will rival these other "blue" jeffs!!

I have a raw 1962 blue proof--should I send it in for cert? I see there is interest in these. Is there any extra value? Cert? Raw?

    Thanks,

    Bill,

    That one is a MONSTER!

  • Actually, Clarks and pontiacinf's nickels are both nice. Makes me want to go back to look over all my older Jeffs.

  • i've got a bunch that are toned i got from rolls. i don't know how long they were in those rolls, but i'm definitely not discouraging the toning from happening - i'm leaving them in the paper rolls. i've tried selling them on ebay but there generally isn't a lot of interest. i think once a person sees an old proof nickel toned light blue, steel blue, deep gold, or rainbow - their interest will peak. they are awesome. I know i shouldn't promote my auctions on this forum. but i'd love for some people on this board to get one.

    Toned Jeffersons

my scanner doesn't get tones at all, but they're beautiful.

Glad to see a little appreciation for the humble Jeff, particularly toned. You will find these coins contain a wide variety of colors, unlike some silver. And, in nickel, the toning has a particular warmth it seems to lack on 90 percent silver. Early 50s and earlier Jeff proofs generally reflect some beautiful toning unless you have a dipped coin. Champagne and icy blue are common and beautiful colors, but it is not unusual to find violet to subtle greenish toned coins and some with rainbow peripheries. The '60s, in particular, seem to have a tendency toward the blue or purple being discussed here. They indeed are pretty coins. Thanks for noticing!
  • Got 1 of each. A 1960 that is violet and a 1962 that is colbalt blue. Also a 1960 that is a light gold/champagne color. Probably will get them slabbed for the heck of it.

Beautiful coins all. Pontiacinf that coin is gorgeous. I'm looking for a quality red to finish my color set. I have a PCGS PR68 Dcam champagne, and just submitted a black with blue devices that is a killer. I have the ice blue, green, yellow, orange, violet, and rainbow, but I haven't found the right red. I've seen one that belongs to another member from the 40's. When it all is finished and holdered, I'll put up pics. I would love to see some of everyone elses, and if anyone sees a good red pr for sale, I'm in. These are so cool. CarlW is hooked too. I expect he'll post any time now.

  • I got a new Jeff blueboy...... Thanks Russ! image Love them colored Jeffs!!!

Someday Don and I are gonna have to get together and compare shades, colors, and rainbows image

Hey Don showed that "red" jewel of mine to Russ the other day but he thinks it's gold! image He seemed to really like even though he's colorblind!! image Guess I should have brought him a real gold toned one to compare it to. Wasn't too impressed with some of my spectacular rainbowed coins image Aaaaawwwww....... what does he know? Just because they weren't '64 Kennedys............
