another Merc

Hi, again.

What about this one? It looks like it has full bands. How much value does full bands give it?

Sorry they are catty-whompus. She is prettier right-side-up!

  • This one again looks like it could go MS, but it's amazing how difficult it is to grade the coin when it's upside down. The top band on the fasces does not appear to be Fully split, but the others look very nice. I don't know if you can quantify exactly how much the FSB designation adds to the coins as it depends on the year, grade and mintmark. Some coins are condition sensitive due to weak strikes being common in certain years. If you get the right combination I would image it could raise the value up anywhere from 15% to 50%. I know that's a broad rage, but it may not be broad enough to cover the whole series.

    I will guess MS65 fb.
    Numismedia shows $185 for a 34p in 65 fb and $34 for a 34p in 65.
  • I think its a MS99 oops I mean MS66 FB

  • Starting to feel overwhelmed again. Is it worth it for us to have this one slabbed before trying to sell it?

I hate this! I feel like I have a bit of a handle on things and then I realize how little I know!

My advanced age keeps me from standing on my head to grade coins. image This one looks MS for sure and with Full Bands. Looks like a luster break in one field so probably 64FB at best. In lower grades the premium would be about $10. The big jump for this year starts at the 65FB coins.

Might as well make a spot for coins to get graded and see how many you end up with then decide.
  • Thanks for your help, folks! I appreciate it!
