Three coins in today, three coins going back to the sellers.

RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
Anybody else have days like this? Two from one seller, one from another. Both these sellers have sterling feedback, with lots of happy customers. I get these coins in and one has dip residue spotting on the obverse, the other two have field haze. Sometimes I think that people assume that if a coin is in a PCGS slab, then it must be okay and don't really look closely at them.

Or, am I just a picky, anal retentive dickhead out of touch with reality?

  • Russ, you left the door wide open and while the temptations are enormous, I'll just say you're doing the right thin by sending them back.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.
  • I am quite sure you are picky, but it's your money and you should be happy with your purchase. I don't think I am picky enough, so I am happy with most purchases. I am sure from an investment standpoint you will always make out better then Iimage
  • Well - it was a big disappointment to me when I saw big gashes in my 1933 Saint...

    Oh wait. Nevermind.

  • My first reaction is that just because they have sterling feedback, doesn't mean they haven't had cpoins returned. I've left positive fedback for sellers even though I've returned the coin because they offered excellant service. I don't think you're being picky. It is your money. But, these things happen. As long as they take the coins back and return your money, I see no problem. Just a run of bad luck.

    Good luck!

Me too, but only one. A 1902 EF-45 (Slabbed as a MS63 RB - Ha, Ha) with just about every kind of negative eye appeal you can imagine (black sneezes and spittal; wear, wear, everywhere - especially on Miss Librerty's hair; bad case of teenage acne that someone probably tried to cure by dipping the coin in zit cream). I think if I vomited on it, it would look better.image

OK, got that off my chest.

Russ, thanks for the intro - otherwise I would have just kept my emotions inside.image

If they are coins, send them back. If they are Kennedies I would spend them.

  • I think maybe you've been looking at gem proof Kennedys too long. The majority of coins out there have all kinds of problems that's why they all don't grade MS/PR69.

I don't mean you should keep something you are not happy with but I'd suggest you look for a higher grade or maybe shop the shows for a while.

    dbldie55,

    Nope, not Kennedy's.

    coynclecter,

All three of these are graded 69.

Well, I just heard back from one of the sellers. Now I know why his feedback is excellent.image

My exact sentiments. Received a coin in the mail today with a big long scratch on it. Didn't see it in the auction pic and the seller didn't say anything about it. Needless to say, it's already on its way back.

  • You can never be to picky, if you keep a coin you don't really like you will regret it forever (or until you sell it for a lose).

Send'em home......I'm beginning to hate sight-unseen in anybody's holder. It's great though to deal with good sellers, and I know you're right about them not looking at slabbed coins.

    Bear,

These weren't JFKs. Not that I've stopped buying JFKs, just adding a little variety.image

  • Hi Russ- At the grade level you're collecting, I don't blame you for sending the coins back. They should be free of any spots or haze. Besides, you're the one that has to live with them. By the way, how is your short set of walkers coming along? I'm putting together a similiar set.

Added one yesterday that I picked up at the show. That puts me up to 60% and moved me back on to the first page. But, that was short-lived. Somebody registered two new sets and immediately knocked me back off. The competition in this set seems to be heating up.

  • I, like Pushkin, have only sent one back - a 1908-S indian that looked great in the picture, but just didn't
measure up when I got it. Nothing wrong with the coin - it matched the grade that he advertised, I just
knew that when I got it, it wasn't the coin I wanted in my collection.

By all means, if YOU are not happy with the coins, send them back!!! You are the one who has to live with
    them, not the seller!

  • You're further along in your set than I am. Good luck- it's a neat series to collect!
careful- that light at the end of the tunnel might be a freight train!

  • Then I'm glad you got sniped on my PR66 Accented Hair today.
You would have returned it because there is no red in it, like in the picture.

    Relayer,

Let me note two things for you. First, when I buy a coin graded 66, I expect there to be reasons why it is only a 66. Second, if I actually wanted it, I wouldn't have gotten sniped.image

    Russ, NCNE
  • Russ-

Actually you probably would have been happy with it at your high bid price - another $5 bucks and you'd be paying what I did for it.image
