What is the NGC dealer rate/should I try to cross my ASE?

airplanenutairplanenut Posts: 22,148 ✭✭✭✭✭
Howdy,

I am going to try out a new coin shop Saturday (YAY!) and they happen to be an NGC authorized dealer (that is how I realized they existed). Does anyone know how much they pay for a submission (so if they didn't feel like making a profit, I got the economy service for under $11)?

I am thinking of crossing Mr. Toned ASE because it really ticks me off that it is in a *63* slab. Michael Dixon said at least 66, TomB said at 67 image PCGS.. well... Will a toned coin look better in the NGC slab?

Thanks for your input image

Jeremy

PS- here are scans... the only real problems I see with the coin is the scratch on the shield.

Jeremy you have been at this coin collecting business for awhile and are very intelligent, what do you think? If you think it has a shot at an upgrade go for it. Time to test your knowledge.image

A "shot" at an upgrade? It IS an upgrade... who knows what was interfering with PCGS' mind that day? I'm just seeing if there is a reason to (not) to send it in- will it look better in one of the slabs? will it get "the star?" etc...

But Mike, don't mind me partially quoting you:

  • You could always crack it out, and send it in PCGS economy. Just a thought. I agree that 63 seems very low based on the scan.image

I like the rectangular shape on the reverse it reminds me of how I used to add toning when I was teenager by putting a piece of paper in the capsule with coins from the mint.image mike

This coin looks better in person than what the scan shows. I was totally surprised that it came back 63!!! I send to NGC, so if you want to send it, let me know.

Thanks for the offer, Mike. I might just send it out tomorrow through a dealer who is semi local (I'll get there by train; about a mile or two from my grandparents' house). I'll save a smidgen on shipping that way image I'll probably try a crossover, because I don't want to crack and see NGC say "BODYBAG!!!"

I don't know, I see quite a few marks marks on it unless they are on the holder.
Obverse in the sun, on the rim,in the skirt and maybe a big one in the skirt.
Reverse small in the eagle shield, eagles feathers on the right as veiwed.
And is that mark near the nose part of the design?
If not that's gotta be a good deduction.
