I won this in an auction today. What do you think? image mikeimage

  • Well, at least you know it probably hasn't been dipped.image The toning isn't what I would really call "attractive". However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.image

My guess would be AU the scan isn't the best and my monitor isn't the best either

  • whats the stuff around the stars?

  • The stuff around the stars is just grime and residue from over the years. This date and mintmark is common with a weak strike from what I've seen. I can't really tell about the strike on this coin because there's some blurry spots on the picture. The breast feathers on the reverse look pretty well struck, in my opinion.

KlectorKid- thats toning not "grime and residue" although probably not a bad description for that type of toningimage. mikeimage

Looks like someone cleaned the dirt off of it. I can't tell if it left hairlines.
It looks like a nice ms- but some of the picture seems fuzzy like it was shot thru plastic or something.
    Is it in a slab?

If those marks by the mouth are staple scratches I'll give it 62. Otherwise 63 or maybe 64.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • I know it's toning, but sometimes you'll see dirt and grime around the raised areas.

  • I came across a dozen 84-0's in very very brilliant condition, particularly the backs. The only flaws I see on these is some scratches on the faces, but I would call these minor. I will have to try scanning these as I would like to get an opinion of how these might possibly grade.

  • darktone, if you don't mind my asking, what did this set you back?

Between the toning and the nature of the scan, very hard to say. Probably 63; maybe 64.

I paid $27. I like the original look of it and it has a nice strike. I don't usually buy morgans these days but this one just caught my eye.image mike
