I picked up a 1849 gold dollar this morning. It's got ef details with a couple marks on the front. Probably a net vf. I really like this series, think I'll start a set

That's a nice dollar! I got one a few years later that was already in a jewelry loop that I gave to my mom. It would be a fun and challenging set to put together, though, of gold dollar coins. Expensive, too!

Nice coin. Watch out for fakes as there are many out there in the $1 gold series and don't even think about buying one of these from Europe as nine out of ten turn out to be fake in my experience from European dealers. mike
