My favorite coin would have to be a 1921 Morgan $ that was given to me in a group of coins when my grandfather passed away. It was cleaned at some point, most likely to remove tarnish(toning). If not for that, it would probably grade in the higher MS grades. But, even cleaned, it's a coin I will never part with.

  • I have an 1806 Bust quarter (NGC VF30). That’s the one that I like the most. Those early U.S. coins have character, don’t they?

Mine is a Grant Memorial with Star gold commemorative. It's so tiny that you really need a loupe to see anything at all on it, but it is very detailed. Plus, it was my dad's.

My favorite coin will be the next one I own and then will be retired with the coin purchased after that.

  • I have two, my 1917 Type 1 & 1918 MS66FH Standing Liberty Quarters.

The SLQ is my favorite series and probably always will be. Can't wait to get my third.

I just got a new Franklin that I really like and appreciate the history and heritage of early dollars and U.S. gold coinage but this Toned Barber Quarter is right near the top of the list image.

Alright, alright...I got carried away again image.

I like my EF-AU 1859 Indian which I got from my mom (a steal at $7 image)
Also, I got a 1917 T1 SLQ in EF... best SLQ I have and I knew that I couldn't afford it when I saw it- an aunt went out of her way to get it for me image

My favorite coin I own is a 1908-O Barber Quarter. It's only EF, but it IS THE COIN that got me addictive to coin collecting a few years ago.

  • This is my favorite right now.

  • I also like the SLQ. I know the Washington quarters are big now, but this one has such a nice detailed design. The Washington looks dull in comparision. Here is my favorite, a 1929-S full head. It's my first and only ful head one.

KlectorKid - I only own two coins (as a dealer, I try not to keep many!) but one of them will always be my favorite, no matter how many I acquire in the future.

My grandmother's uncle was numismatic pioneer, B. Max Mehl. She died recently and left me something I will always treasure - a 1909-S $20 that was a gift from him to her on her wedding day. She was born in 1909 so he chose that year. Along with the coin, is a handwritten note from B. Max Mehl, congratulating my grandmother on her marriage. The coin resides in an NGC holder, with the grading label bearing her name, in her honor. Needless to say, it will remain in the family forever.
  • Cool story Mark:

I bet that coin brings a smile to your face every time you look at it!

It does, Frank. I need to look at it more often!
  • My favorite coin is usually the one I just bought. Here is the obverse of a twenty cent proof coin I just bought:

The toning is lighter with more red highlights in person.

i have a 1797 bust half. it is ugly: holed, bent, repaired, cleaned and artificially toned. but you know what? i LOVE the coin.

how many people have, or ever will have, a draped-bust sm. eagle half???

  • It's a tossup between my mint state standing liberty quarters
or my Washington quarters. I can get as much of a thrill looking
at my common 1951-S MS quarters as I can looking at my 1916 MS
quarters. Type I,II,III, it's the individual beauty of a coin
that gets to me, not the rarity. Like the 1964 Kennedy Russ just
posted, now that simply got to me and I had to PM him and tell him.

This new addition is high on my favorites list, as well.

Say, Carl- a 20c proof! Wowzers! That's tasty! image

This one is high on my favorites list, too, because I was its first owner in over 300 years. I found it with my metal detector. It even was featured in an article in the Atlanta paper.
