tried to bid, but the $9,750 reserve was to high!
  • PushkinPushkin Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭

Russ, are you sure its AT? You aren't using deceptive advertising to scam some poor seller are you? image
    Think I'll bid - I can't pass up a good story!image
  • I'm REALLY interested in this coin, but before I bid I need to know, is that [ARTIFICIAL] wear on the hair over the ear and eagle's breast? If it's [NATURAL] wear and not [ARTIFICIAL] wear, I don't want it.

Russ, that's great. Even if it's not colorfast, I like the way it looks.

My wife and I attended the Kent coin show for all of about twenty minutes on Saturday. It's funny because my wife (bless her heart) was kind of hungry and irritable, but the only coins she commented on were the group your Morgan came from. She pointed at the three remaining and said "Those are pretty!"
I glanced at them and said "Yeah, and they're AT."
    Wife: What's AT?
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.... long story short, never try to explain artificial toning to your wife at a coin show when she's hungry and would rather be anywhere else, including stranded on the moon, or Elmo's guns and ammo show.
Ultimately, she didn't believe me anyway. Sigh. When we got home later that day, there was your scan. Then she really didn't believe me. "Well, that nice man, bought it. It must be real!"
I tried to explain that you are not a nice man, but rather an incredible eBay profiteer, laying in wait to fleece the innocent, but she still doesn't believe me.
I guess I'll have to bid on the coin. She thinks it's pretty.

You know, the nice thing about the fact that I don't earn my living on eBay is that I can have a little fun along the way.image For me, that's what this hobby is all about. The bonus to that is that I can also do a little public service at the same time which allows me, as a newb, to give something back to the hobby.

    Clankeye,

The dealer who had these seemed a little irritated when, in a voice loud enough for everyone around to here, I asked to see one of his "oven baked" Morgans.image When I told him I'd take it, he about crapped a brick. Actually, though, looking at the coin I don't think it's heat, more likely chemical. Not sure if it's the right word, but the toning seems "thick", like it's coated on, rather than embedded.

  • Russ--
Nobody at that show was really exhibiting a Happy-Happy Joy-Joy attitude. I've seen livelier crowds at the Dept. of Licensing.
Too bad it was your first experience with a coin show.
I still think you should go to Tacoma. That one will be better.

It took me 7 months to learn how to do that.

What?....to smile? Little infant babies smile immediately right after they're born...or could that be gas.
But anyway, I thought bears always have a smile on their faces.........man, what will I hear next?

Leo - Bears are serious animals and we dont smile. What took me 7 months
was to learn how to use the emoticons, PM and all of the
    other good stuff hanging around.
You are talking to a bear who first learned how to turn on a computor
only a year ago and it is very slow going for me. Bear

    Russ,

One thing I don't understand. What makes the obverse and reverse [ARTIFICIAL]. image

Are [ARTIFICIAL] obverse and [ARTIFICIAL] reverse synonyms for counterfeit? image

Are you selling [ARTIFICAL(LY)] toned coins or{ [ARTIFICAL(LY)] toned [ARTIFICAL (counterfeit coins)]}? where is Dorkkarl when you need him?image
  • RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
    Pushkin,

It does appear that in my efforts to squeeze in the word [ARTIFICIAL] as many times as possible, I committed a gramatical faux paus.image

  • What is the reserve?

    TBT image
  • RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
    TBT,

The reserve is stupidly high because I don't want to sell it - $150.00. Although, with all the action going on I'm beginning think I should have set it higher.image
