Mystery Solved

Remember my old thread that described a strange cent that I found. Well my curiosity got the better of me, so I sent it in. It came back as defective plating (mint error). What about the depression in the rim though? Where the silver streak leave the coin the rim has a depression. I've attached photos. The reverse is cool too. The copper plating is starting to flake off. On the rev. picture the copper plating is actually bent up and ready to flake off.

A 1943 copper Lincoln will still only buy a gumball out of the machine, but you can purchase the machine and the store with that same cent.

  • Thanks Don.

I was actually beginning to wonder about post mint damage. I was afraid it was going to come back in a bodybag.
