What happends if a PCGS coin degrades in the holder.

I have and SBA dollar that grades out a PR70DCAM. But has devoloped a spot on the coin. (I'll post a scan later). There is no way the coin will now grade PR70DCAM. What is PCGS's policy if the coin has a problem while in the slab???
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • You must send it in their grade review which has the policy of downgrading a coin if deemed so. PCGS either buys the coin outright or sends you the difference in check between the higher and lower grade. This is very dangerous for moderns, since PCGS may pay you the difference, but since their are no major guidelines for pricing moderns accurately, you many lose some money in the course of events.

The problem I have is, is that the coin can not be sold as a PR70DCAM. Might have to send it in to PCGS and take the hit.

If you look at the back of the neck you will see the spot.

  • Is the spot in the shape of an "S"? image
  • Although not widely advertised, if requested, PCGS will dip the coin. They make you sign a release so if there's a problem, SOL. The dipping will remove the haze and spot.

Look at the discolorazation at the base of the neck. PCGS said send the coin in and they will take a look at it.
