It doesn't look AU to me, but then again, I don't know much about Bust $'s.

I saw this one this morning while browsing around. I wouldn't give it AU. I would give it VF to EF.

I agree, it is not AU, but it does look original. I'd have to see up close.

Honestly, I think this coin is a ChVF coin. It is very well struck, but all the obv details have too much evidence of wear. The rev, on the other hand, is a solid EF. Maybe even ChEF.

I'd grade this, based on the scan: VF35/EF45.

It would've been better if the seller had taken the coin out of the holder before scanning it!

I'd say vf20. Overall looks nice, I imagine that there are many styles, this one has a different date and L in Liberty than the one I have, and the mouth looks minutely different. I don't know enough about the series to know if that's a problem or not.

first impression is genuine, grades xf-40. has full hairline separation at the forehead, probably bustline separation as well, dentilation both sides is outstanding. reverse has detail separtion between shield and wings, between eagle's neck and shield, and the motto is strong. XF at least. i need to check my bolender book to be sure , but i'm prett sure it's not a beter variety.

I would worry that this coin is counterfeit or heavy worked on. In trying to attribute this coin, I can't find any diagnostic marks at all. The surfaces have both a smooth texture, and an unusually uniform coloration.

Looks XF, but the sale is final bothers me. I would never buy a coin of this era without a return privilage. There are too many repaired coins and coins with other problems that won't appear on a scan. Pass without a return. This is not an extreamly rare date there are others.

I wouldn't buy one of those raw from eBay myself.
If that one is genuine and the seller thinks it is au the reserve is probably over a thousand maybe even two.
The coin looks ef at best to me and might be a net coin because of the scratches and the peeling along the rim.
  • My guess is that this coin will not sell. When it does not , if you want it, offer the seller that you will pay greysheet plus the cost of PCGS/NGC grading if he sends it in. My guess is that it has already been BB'd. so he will turn you down.
  • DANGER...DANGER... Will Robinson

Not Au maybe (I say maybe XF)

    NO return policy

99% of these have some kind of problems ( including PCGS/NGC)

This one is screaming STAY AWAY

I asked about a return police and got this respose:
"What would make you think this coin is not real? The collector that consigned this coin has far more expensive items than this. "
I asked agian, if the coin comes back BB or is not real, would he take it back for a refund... and got:
"All I can tell you is I have been buying and selling coins for 35 years and I would bet my registry set of Morgans that this is an authentic coin, I guess I might be a little leary if I were you also because this coin is in amazing condition, not something you see very often if at all. But I can assure you it is authentic."

But he never answered if he would take a return....

    I say PASS!!!

XF40 with slight (obverse) rim bruising. And, I hate to say it- but there is also the off chance (not to be too negative here) that this one isn't authentic. It just has a slightly odd look to it. -Can't place my finger on it, but without a closer inspection (and a liberal return policy!) I'd have to take a pass.

despite my previous post, i totally agree that bust dollars should always ALWAYS ALWAYS be bought sight-seen, and i couldn't give a rat's ,uh, tail what plastic the coin is in.

i ain't a gonna bid, but was just answering the question of what was thought of it.
